They removed the backup at original quality (except for the OG 2016 Pixels). Backup at storage saver (compressed quality) is available for life for the Pixel 2 - 5, but not for any newer Pixels after that.

It makes a lot of sense, I use onedrive picture backup on my phone that syncs to a pixel 1 that has sat plugged in untouched for over 2 years... All my photos get backed up ful res for free regardless of the phone I use.
Nice. I use a similar method to get unlimited backups on a 4a 5G.

Google Fi subscription is the way to go. Pay I think $9/mo for a new pixel, only $250 total.

Can't beat it. Google Fi monthly plans also just came down in price.
I had Google Fi for 3 months when I got the 4a 5g. Didn't like it. I think visible by Verizon is better with a more stable data stream.

The problem with Google Fi long term is that it is just too expensive compared to so many prepaid options unless you have multiple lines on an unlimited plan. For someone like me who only needs about 3GB data on one line, Fi just doesn't make sense. They do have some good deals though where you get the discounted phone upfront and only need to be with them for 4 months (like the $300 S22 deal).

Too costly for us. If we wanted to pay that much, we would stay on Verizon for $10 more for each of 2 lines ($50 vs $40) and that is current price so I def would not have done it if even higher.
We tried Visible, but data reliability was poor for us. So now we are trying US Mobile w/ the Verizon flavor of SIM and smooth so far for $15 + ~$4 tax/fees per line per month (after our $10 mo introductory offer ends) for 5GB each line per month (poolable after the promotional period ends).

I would consider Fi for a short-term period to get a nice price on a phone like what was mentioned already, but we are not wanting drawn-out statement credits/financing phones. Had enough of that with VZW.

World isn't black and white, it also makes zero logical sense. Explain to me why VHS tapes of Disney movies are worth $$$. Better yet explain NFTs to me.
Are Disney vhs still worth money?

Google Fi is great if you have 4 lines, probably the best. The insurance is much better than the rest.

But for single line, you're right. Too expensive. But all the postpaid are like that too

I managed for one of the big 3 corporate carriers. I've carried a pixel since the 1 and have always been a vocal advocate. Never again. These aren't the phones they used to be and Google isn't the company they used to be. The pixel 4s and 5s have been riddled with problems. My 5 constantly overheats and it's pulling teeth to get google to do anything to make it right. The only remaining advantage is in the storage they take away after two years or.

So why not just buy a cracked screen pixel 1 for the unlimited backup for $30 and get whatever phone you want without having to be restricted?

I think that way comes out cheaper than to overpay for these old phones

It's Google...it's pixel....chances are the 6a will have even more bugs then the 6.

Sad to say it, but Google's version of Android has the most issues

Do you mean just have the pixel 1 as a sock drawer and the second phone as daily driver. Don't think it works that way, ie the photos have to be taken off of the pixel 1 I believe; someone can correct me if that's not the case.

The best reason to buy any Pixel is to put Graphene OS on it. The private and secure mobile operating system.

The A stock LG velvet I just bought on ebay for $140 has similar specs to the pixel 5 except 2GB less RAM and a .75" larger screen and it updated to android 12 when I stuck an AT&T prepaid sim inside... good deals to be had for those who look.

That was just a secondary phone... LG V60 is my main. Nonetheless these are okay deals. Anyone not paying flagship prices for a phone is doing it right. For everyone else... Wink

I ran it for over 6months but ended up carrying 2 phones around. I liked using a graphene phone but for bank apps to run correctly generally signed stock roms are required. & yes whenever possible I try to use actual websites & as few apps as possible to avoid fingerprinting but do need to use mobile check deposits which only exist on their apps (I believe.) BTW out of the gate Graphene OS didn't work well with my video doorbell but CalyxOS did fine mainly because of the doorbell's notifications requiring gservices.

IMO GrapheneOS is quite polished but requires a high amount of daily compromise to use as a daily driver(& this coming from a user that avoids all social media apps & websites!)

All my banking activities go through real computers. My phones don't have any payment "app". I use credit cards and cash. Have a PxxPxx to accommodate my buyers who use it. But, they pay the PxxPxx fees.
