Notebookcheck.net for the extensive review.

No. Microsoft releases a new surface yearly, and the old gets dumped on clearance. Dumping surfaces = a new one likely arriving.

...

As for the surface vs the alternatives, here's a list:

Tablet PCs

13.3" OLED tablet, Dolby Vision & Atmos, separate row of function keys, quad speakers, stand works in horizontal and vertical orientations.

12.6" OLED, 709 grams, sliding open cover.

China has made Surfaces long enough to fully clone them and do better.

Eg https://www.indiegogo.com/project...60p-tablet

$1k for a 12-core cpu, 16gb, 1tb OneNetbook T1 tablet.

So when looking at competitors, you're just doing tradeoffs most of the time - e.g. Ports, screen size, battery runtime, repairability, pen button location and rechargability, etc. - with the exception of the latest 12th gen Alder Lake Intel cpu tablets like the T1 which run faster than the 4-core cpu in current Pros.

...

Finally, hackintosh.com
They only tablet Mac are..... PC tablets running Mac OSX!

You'd really want 16gb+ ram if multitasking with Mac OSX heavily, although you can squeeze by with 8GB.
I got this from Costco on Black Friday for $779. This has been the best Surface I've ever owned, and I've had all of them including the SP8.
It's my only portable, I use it for everything. Surface Pro tablets replaced my laptop ten years ago. If I'm away from my desktop, the SP7+ is my only other computer. With Windows 11 and a full install of MS Office Professional Plus, there's still over 70GB of storage remaining.

EDIT: Two things I forgot. I bought a Surface Pro 8 and returned it because they started making them out of aluminum instead of magnesium. The difference is only 5 ounces, but it's enough that the SP8 is no longer any good as a tablet. Also, the SP7+ has the same CPU, RAM and easily replaceable SSD as the SP8 for a lot less money.

Is this good for taking notes? Is this better than the ipad pro for taking notes? Im trying to replace the rocketbook ive been using because the ink smudges and becomes illegible.

I like it better that the iPad Pro for note taking, but it is heavier. If you use One Note and the MS office suite it's a no brainer over the iPad Pro. If you have a mac laptop, iPad might be the way to go if you want the ecosystem.

Great deal. My sp3 chugging along so I'm gonna hold out for a little bit, I want sp8 so I can store pen inside the laptop. I feel like I'm missing out on it because I'm too lazy to dig it out of my bag.

My Internet is is super slow for some reason, otherwise I'd try to figure this out myself, but is this the same package as the one on the front page for $700? TIA

Run to any store, launch Microsoft OneNote and try it out.

Digital note taking is always slightly different than paper, so you'll want to make sure you can adjust.

Over here, works fine.

Onenote for pc is the only version that can recording audio/video of lectures simultaneously. If you're too slow writing in class to write everything, you just tap on the words at that moment in the lecture to hear the playback from that point in time at home.
