No. Microsoft releases a new surface yearly, and the old gets dumped on clearance. Dumping surfaces = a new one likely arriving.

As for the surface vs the alternatives, here's a list:

China has made Surfaces long enough to fully clone them and do better.

$1k for a 12-core cpu, 16gb, 1tb OneNetbook T1 tablet.
So when looking at competitors, you're just doing tradeoffs most of the time - e.g. Ports, screen size, battery runtime, repairability, pen button location and rechargability, etc. - with the exception of the latest 12th gen Alder Lake Intel cpu tablets like the T1 which run faster than the 4-core cpu in current Pros.

They only tablet Mac are..... PC tablets running Mac OSX!

You'd really want 16gb+ ram if multitasking with Mac OSX heavily, although you can squeeze by with 8GB.
EDIT: Two things I forgot. I bought a Surface Pro 8 and returned it because they started making them out of aluminum instead of magnesium. The difference is only 5 ounces, but it's enough that the SP8 is no longer any good as a tablet. Also, the SP7+ has the same CPU, RAM and easily replaceable SSD as the SP8 for a lot less money.

Digital note taking is always slightly different than paper, so you'll want to make sure you can adjust.
Over here, works fine.
Onenote for pc is the only version that can recording audio/video of lectures simultaneously. If you're too slow writing in class to write everything, you just tap on the words at that moment in the lecture to hear the playback from that point in time at home.
