I just got this router yesterday. All was great until this morning when none of my Ethernet connections would work but wifi connections were OK. Spent hours with tech support but only answer was either reset the router and try again or return. I reinstalled my old Tmobile Asus AC1900 and all is well again.

No Link aggregation cause it has 1 x 2.5 wan/lan and 1 Gbps wan/lan port so if you are getting 1Gbps speeds from your ISP plug the modem into there and then use the 2.5Gbps port for your NAS. It will work a lot better than using LAN aggregation with 2x1 Gbps ports anyway. It then also has 3 normal 1Gbps LAN ports.

The issue you had of only getting a 169 ip address means you were getting a ARPA address, so that usually points to your modem not talking to your router anymore. Also could indicate a temporary service area issue for your ISP. If that was true you would have not had working wireless either so that cant be right. You might have just got a dud router, but overall I would have tried a replacement unit cause your problem is not very common at all looking at reviews. Noone complained of your issues from the costco reviews taht I could see, only issue I could find with any common place was signal drop issue but that could also be an environmental problem.

That all being said I would have not downgraded myself and spent more money on outdated tech, I would have tried a replacement before shifting over to a completely different brand like Asus if the replacement didnt work out. Spending $70 on lower end wifi 5 gear this late in the game is a waste of money. Just my two cents, but I got many many years of networking behind that two cents.
Really good point. I may ask for an exchange to check it out again. For the money, you can't beat it. I also have another TP Link product (Archer A6) running as an AP.

Here's a discussion I was referring to:
https://community.tp-link.com/us/...pic/242050

A couple other related cases involving no wired connections but wifi is OK.

Looked at the discussion, its over 2 years old with very few people chiming in which means it was a very very rare problem if at all. There were only 4 total replys in the thread with the last one from 6 months ago saying the issue is resolved in the latest firmware (6 month ago firmware which by now would have had a ton of newer firmware revisions). With that few traffic and over 2 years for a fix whatever the problem was means it only happened under very very strange circumstances, the reason I say that, is cause the tp-link support person said it was fixed in a range of routers. If that was a big problem across the board it would have been all over the review and tech hardware websites, which it was not.

If you decide to exchange and go for another one, make sure you update to the latest firmware right off the bat and also make sure your router along with your modem are on a proper surge protector. We have had big storms here recently so power has flickered and browned out many times, luckily I got stuff on battery backups so only the lights would flicker and equipment would be fine. Modem and Router equipment very sensitive to electrical fluctuations, also a well ventilated area is important too.

Second thread also very old but primarily all talking about a older A7 router one guy im guessing caused his own problem cause of VLANs not being configured properly. The others not sure but last replay was in 2021 so if the first thread is correct it would have been completely resolved already.

Just to add to this, I primarily have used for a few days at a time the X20/X21 X50 and almost all the DECO's at one time or another, never the wifi 5 stuff cause primarily I was a Asus and Netgear user than, and in all the time I have playied around with TP-Link stuff never had the above problem.

For those asking if this does Mesh, why not try the WDS option. All these routers should support it if it does not support Mesh. I've got two TPLink Archer A7v5's running in WDS mode at my parents without any problems.
Disclaimer, I don't have these routers so I don't know for sure if these things support WDS, my hunch is that they should. However, someone else who has these can chime in. Just use one of the 5GHz bands as the WDS Station and don't connect any of your devices to that SSDI (and Hide the SSID's) and use the 2.4GHz and the other 5GHz band to connect your devices.

A range increase for sure, with about 150Mbps increase in performance at close range (less than 10ft) on the high end (850 Mbpsish max out) and about 200Mbps increase over a distance since I seen these hold around 700mbps at around 40 feet compared to the AX3000 750Mbps and 500Mbps respectively.

Also get the 1 2.5Gbps WAN/LAN and a second 1Gbps WAN/LAN which is great for NAS boxes and people who have 1Gbps fiber ISP.

Now if when you said AX3000, but you really meant the X50 model TP-Link the gap closes to about half of those numbers so a lot less of an upgrade.

Overall though if your happy with what you currently have unless you plan to utilize the 2.5Gbps port you can probably hold off on upgrading cause this router has been around this price a lot and will probably continue to be so no rush.

Can I do mesh network if I buy 2 of this?
Sorry, the short answer is no. TP-Link cannot mesh 2 routers, but Asus can.

* I bought 2 TP-Link routers. They cannot work together as a mesh network, but I can setup router 2 as a wireless bridge.

* I checked TP-Link website. TPL mesh router can pair with TPL mesh extenders, but it cannot pair with another TPL mesh router.

* Instead, please consider Asus brand for the scalability to pair 2 or more routers as a mesh network. Hope my answer helps. Peace

Why do all the recent wireless routers look like they were designed by someone from Gillette? I hear the next models will have 12 antennas!

Really appreciate the response. I'll probably hold off for now then.

I have not, but its supported, it would make for a very powerful AP. Under operation mode would just have to switch it to AP instead of wireless router mode.

Yes, wifi speed was noticeable faster and range was slightly better. I am not sure if the ethernet ports failed or there is some issue with the firmware. Looks like this may be a known issue and couldn't be resolved with simple reboot. I was stuck with invalid IP address (169...). On a side note, I just ordered RT-AC1900P for $70 on Amazon but will miss Wifi 6 / Smart Connect feature.
TP-Link is on my black listed devices now. Their firmware seems shoddy at best. Had their AC5000 or whatever and the firmware caused the 5GHZ to stop working due to "regulations in specific regions". That is also a firmware issue.

Anyone know about using the USB port for storage? I just got the Archer AX55 and transferring files is SUPER SLOW. I'm sitting right next to the router with 800mbps connection and it moves files at like 1MB/s... It's to an NVMe, when plugged directly into my phone is crazy fast.
