An AUE date "only" four years out doesn't compare favorably to the 6+ years you might've seen on some of the deals on Lenovo models as of late. However, the good news is that Google should have delivered on LaCros (the decoupling of the browser and underlying ChromeOS) before that 2026 AUE date meaning the browser on this Chromebook could continue receiving updates well past the AUE date.

The chromebook won't die on the AUE date, and your apps in Linux and Android would continue to take updates, however the ChromeOS and integral browser do stop receiving updates. As the risks associated with ChromeOS are relatively low thus far (i.e. -sandboxing works), creating a path to maintain browser updates past the AUE date really makes the basic Chromebook experience an potentially evergreen one.

Should mention the two-year Allstate warranty in the title/OP. IMO it makes buying refurbished a "safer" experience. All things considered it seems like a really good price!

You can run Linus within a sandbox in the ChromeOS, though I've found that Linux on ChromeOS is much more stable on my 8GB chromebook than my 4GB chromebook.

Only very specific chromebooks have supported workarounds to allow for wiping ChromeOS in favor of booting Linux directly. I am not aware of that being an option for this device.
