i5 processor configuration is $220 less and only other difference is 8gb ram which is a cheap upgrade later on.

The i5 config then sounds like a much better deal. Since this is the 7000 series (higher end than Inspiron 3000 and 5000 series), a 2-in-1 with a touchscreen and the latest gen CPU, it's a steal for $550 (or especially for $495 with the 10% coupon).

I7 review:

I opted for the i5 version. It was 485 pretax using the capital one spring 12% off. Also split payment with Amex for another 40 dollars back making it 445 before tax.

Yeah, wondering the same. I created a new account but didn't receive any coupons or codes for 10% off

The I5 seems like a really hot deal. $495 after 10% off newsletter signup code plus credit card cash back (Dell specific plus my cc cash back) put this around $450 pretax for me for a gen 12 processor with upgradeable ram.

For those looking for the signup code it's when you sign up a new email address for Dell's newsletter, seems to take at least an hour for the code email to come through.

from a value for money standpoint, how does this or the i5 deal compare against an M1 Macbook Air for 850+tax? Ignoring, of course the fact that this is Windows and the MBA is a Mac (obviously). I need a laptop for home use and want to stay within $1,000 if possible, but don't want to go too low end and regret later. TIA for the opinions, I know there is not one right answer Smilie

Dang I jumped on this yesterday but didn't know about the newsletter code and didn't even think of the capital one spring 12% gah. Still just over 500 with tax included isn't too bad. I also get 18 back in dell bucks and 18 back from slick deals

From Dell's reviews and Q&A section, one good thing, one sad thing...

RAM is upgradeable. I5 with 8gb ram and upgrade later definitely seems like the value buy here.

Screen is only 250 nits. blah blah....at this price...blah. This is a 7-series platform not the 3 or 5. Yes it's a deal, but junk where you need the display to be a little bright, even at a decent price, is still junk.

Unless you want a MacBook specifically, the i5 config of this is absolutely a better value.

The only spec that may be regrettable here is the relatively low end screen. It's a shame that they are putting that on a 7000-series inspiron. But then I haven't seen it in person, so I am just complaining about what's "on paper" here.

I had a 7000 series from 2019. 250 nit screen was the sole reason why I returned it. Thought I could deal with it but just couldn't. Colors were terrible too.
