A few good cheapies I've played:

Bro Force - $3.74 Fun contra-like side shooter with many cameos of our greatest action stars!
Mother Russia Bleeds - $2.99 A gruesome retro brawler.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - $4.99 Fun brawler illustrated like the original comic book.
Valkyria Chronicles $7.99 A beautiful anime styled turn based X-com-like tactics game.
The Messenger - $7.99 A love letter to old school NES Ninja Gaiden side scrolling games.

What Remains of Edith Finch - $5.99 I haven't actually played this one. It's been sitting downloaded in my Game Pass Library for months. Too much backlog. However, the reason it is dl'd is because I looked it up and it is very well reviewed. Someone described it as "It's like playing a videogame, watching a movie, and reading a book at the same time. Amazing!"

Is this the same lowest price for immortals fenyx rising gold edition? $25. I've seen it on sale before but never pulled the trigger.

Also recommend the castlevania classics collection if you see it on sale

Wish some of them could be on the switch online games list

I still find myself wondering why Edith Finch is so well reviewed by everyone! Haha. My wife and I really enjoy playing through indie games/one player campaigns together for context. So when it came out on game pass we were pumped.

But. Idk.. I think it should remain in your backlog until you don't have anything left 😂 It was just a weird, eerie storyline that felt just.. I mean I guess weird… It's hard to explain, but it just felt off and you're investigating and living through dreams (or reality??) of this creepy haunted house childhood story vibe of a little girl trying to escape. And the family seems like abusive and you're figuring out why this one child wasn't loved or something and how she's escaping. Then it goes through all these interesting dreams in First Person viewpoint. Idk. Hard to explain why we didn't like it, it just was NOT what we were expecting and had that creepy/sad vibes 😂

It felt cool at first like, "what in the world is going on?? We need to knowwwwwww" but as the levels progressed the gameplay just was.. weird stuff.. 😂

Anywho. Figured I'd at least shoot my shot explaining that it's worth keeping in backlog haha.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Gold Edition is fun if you like X-Com like games but don't want it to be punishingly difficult.

Death's Door is rated highly and at it's lowest ever price. I'm thinking of picking it up.
I didn't play Death's Door on Switch as it wasn't out at the time, but I would absolutely recommend game. I was wishing I was playing it on a handheld the entire time (also applies to Tunic).

I'm on the fence on this game...I've seen conflicting statements on the difficulty. I'm too lazy to get good lol...I want an easy going xcom kind of game.
Maybe I should just stick to Animal Crossing LMAO
If you want an easy going xcom, this game is for you. The game is way better than it has any right to be, and it was never really a significant challenge (and I am by no means a tactical gaming expert). After the first world, the rest of the game was a breeze except for the very last level (which was still beatable). I enjoyed it the entire time.

On a similar note, Into the Breach scratched a similar itch, but it was a bit tougher (it has roguelike elements).

I'll die on the hill that Hades is a top 35 game of *all time*. If it had just been published by a major studio, released 20 years ago, or hadn't launched during 2020 while people were scared and occupied, I think it would get the recognition that it is due.

I agree it's an excellent game, but I disagree that it didn't get the recognition it deserved. It won Game of the Year from DICE, SXSW, IGN, Giant Bomb, BAFTA, etc., was nominated by pretty much all the other outlets, was all most core gaming outlets talked about for the longest time, etc. Just go look at the Game of the Year Wikipedia page [1] and count how many times it shows up (I can see at least 14 GOTY wins, and that doesn't even count all the other categories it won) -- what more recognition would you expect? Those wins were against about as "major studio" as you can get (Naughty Dog, Valve, etc.), I mean we're talking The Last of Us Part 2 (which "only" got 6 GOTY wins) & Half-Life: Alyx (2 GOTY wins), and I can't really imagine it getting more recognition than what it already (deservedly) received.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a good one as well. Ori and the Blind Forest was great, but this is a close 2nd. One of my top games (especially if you were a fan of Metroid back in the day)...

AI: The Somnium Files is a terrific visual novel. I'm not a big visual novel guy, I've played a few and this game was probably my favorite and one of two that I actually liked. The English voice acting was actually pretty top notch too.

There's some complaints about the Switch version having "slowdowns". The only time this happens is during dialogue when they replay a video of something that happened previously. It basically pauses the game for a few seconds and really doesn't happen that often.

I'd say the Switch version is probably my favorite since you can play it on the go and it's not graphics intensive.

Dark Souls Remastered [nintendo.com] is on sale (50% off), which is somewhat rare I believe. I'm getting it. I have it on PC, though still am in the early game, and have played the Switch version a little, it's worth having to play handheld, especially at $20.

Thinking of getting Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze to add another Nintendo platformer that can be played 2 player to my collection to play with my son.

I was thinking of getting Tetris Effect Connected, because my wife likes Tetris and it looks like you can have up to 4 players playing at the same time which would make a fun family game, but realized I can get it through PS Plus, so I'll try it on my PS5. Might still be worth getting on Switch for handheld and being able to dock on different TVs in the house. Anyone know when this sale ends?

I already have Hades on both PC and Switch. I had the PC/Steam version first, and I've been meaning to setup cross-save to continue my game on Switch.

M+R is about as easy as xcom style games get, imo.

I don't think you understood the point of the story by the sound of your synopsis. It's the story of a fully grown woman trying to uncover the secrets of her family who all seemed to have mysterious deaths and what lead up to each one. It's about "family curses" in the sense that one tragedy can snowball into an infinite spiral of tragedies through unresolved guilt and blame.

It plays surprisingly well on Switch although I'll warn you that if you have any joycon drift, you should get it corrected before you start or certain areas (i.e. Sen's, etc.) will become needlessly more difficult.
