Dude, how many times I had to mention in this thread that Intel is no more the intellectual property holder for Thunderbolt. In 2017, Intel announced that it was going to transfer the royalty to USB Consortium and they completed that back in 2018. Now anybody who wants to implement Thunderbolt standard, can get it directly from USB Consortium / USB Specification Forum directly. Intel is no more the licensing authority for it.

And now let me give you another information. The USB4 specification is developed by USB Consortium based on the Thunderbolt 3 protocol, after that was transferred to USB consortium. Any USB-4 device can implement a mode called USB4 PCIe Mode where the PCIe Devices can be connected to a Type-C USB4 port, without even needing official Thunderbolt certification. That was the main goal of the USB consortium, to make it generic and independent of platform or custom licensing.
Now Microsoft also forces all the vendors to enable this USB4 PCIe Mode, if they implement USB4. As a result, you can actually connect most of the past Thunderbolt 3 compatible devices, including eGPU docks to it, even though the device does not have official Thunderbolt certification but just USB 4. Asus ZenBook S13 with Ryzen 6800U has already been tested with that.
Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCgC0WZp_X0&t=2s
-superior build quality
-much better keyboard
-better all-around performance
-lighter
-presumably better battery life with a bigger battery and more efficient CPU
-general feel of the laptop. the textured coating on high end thinkpads feels very good on your hands. i hate the typical cool, metallic feel on aluminum laptops.

it's everything combined that makes it worth the jump (for me). I actually would if I didn't already purchase a laptop recently.
It used to be couple of years back but Intel has made it available to USB Consortium and now anybody meeting the security need for Thunderbolt protocol can utilise it. USB4 is nothing but the generalized implementation of Thunderbolt 3. You need to update your knowledge base. Hasn't it occur to you how M1 Mac systems are having Thunderbolt 4 Support despite using ARM Based soc?

Pretty good deal being that literally was just released. The 3+ month wait is the hang up.

Was really hoping with Zen 3+, they would add in TP but guess not this model. Love the efficientcy and IGPU performance over the 12th gen Intel though.

The build quality will be amazing but ultimately can't justify switching from a 780 dollar 2022 Yoga 7i which appears to have similar screen (no touch on the P16 and glossy for the Yoga). Don't need the extra RAM although having 32Gb is certainly handy.

The specs look good, it looks like all their new models are going with 16in screens. That's a good and bad thing for me since it means we don't get the option of a high quality wide color gamut display like they offered with the 4k panel on the Legion slim 7.

It'll come before you know it.

I was supposed to wait 3+ months for my $1150 Legion 5 17" 5800H/3070… IIRC, I got it in around 2 months. Baller.

Also had to wait a long time for my Samsung Flex2 Alpha. Waited so long that I got the "next" year model with same specs though and Windows 11 😂 Mine was supposed to come with Win 10.

If you have a laptop now, I'd buy and wait for it. You can always cancel or return it if you find something in the meantime.

Any thoughts on how it compares to the Thinkpad 16p deal for $1115? That one is 5800 vs this 6850 and rtx 3060 vs this 680m.
Is this worth the extra money?

They are not comparable at all. 680M is an integrated Graphics and may be the most powerful oe on that but that is no match for a powerful dedicated GPU. Also, the use cases are pretty different between these two laptops. You cannot compare them and say one is better than others. It depends on what you're planning to use the laptop for.

Specs look great! One question, are those not thunderbolt ports? Or are they and we don't need to put that in descriptions anymore? I'm not sure exactly what makes a thunderbolt port different from a usbc with power delivery and all the other options.

I've owned 2 p series Touchpads before, not anything in the last 5-6 years and yes the build quality is better. The keyboard is much better.

But the Yoga has surprised me quite a bit, the unibody chassis and finish on this laptop is quite good. There is zero flex anywhere on this laptop and it just feels sturdy. It won't have the magnesium structure frame like the P series do however.

For the price difference of 600 dollars and a laptop not meant for workstation use, I think I'm better off saving my money.

I am a bit jealous of the AMD processer on this though. The 12th gen Intel processors quite frankly suck at efficientcy. Their iGPU is also behind. They sat on their laurels for way too long and now AMD and Apple will have the lead in the efficiency front for at least 1-2 more generations.
