It used to be couple of years back but Intel has made it available to USB Consortium and now anybody meeting the security need for Thunderbolt protocol can utilise it. USB4 is nothing but the generalized implementation of Thunderbolt 3. You need to update your knowledge base. Hasn't it occur to you how M1 Mac systems are having Thunderbolt 4 Support despite using ARM Based soc?
Ditton on Macs.

But in context of this thread and the product, no AMD powered laptop has ever had TB in the Ryzen era. If TB was important to the buyer then they need to look for Intel based systems. Simple as that.

You think you know but what you know is couple of years old information. All Zen 3+ cpu can implement thunderbolt or USB4. In desktop market, there're plenty of AM4 motherboard with Zen 2 and Zen 3 having Thunderbolt 3. Google it.
Fine, let me correct myself. TB is Intel only on PC laptops. Happy?

No AMD cpu models has ever had Thunderbolt ports. It's an Intel only feature.
A more accurate question is: will Lenovo upgrade these ports to USB4 via a software update? Similar to what ASUS seems to be doing?

doubt it, if it has usb4 they would explicitly say so (see: T14s AMD gen3, Z13, Z16)

Check about ZenBook S13 2022 in PCworld. The issue was that amd didn't have their usb 4 driver and firmware ready when their 6000 based usb 4 supported laptops started coming out. A lot of them are going to get usb 4 support in next couple of months. Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 and Z16 already having it, Asus Rog Flow X13, Zephyrus G15 and G14, Rog strix series for 2022, all are getting usb 4 support. And in Windows 11, any laptop with USB 4, can support thunderbolt accessories even if they're not officially certified. It's not that simple. May be try to understand and read a bit.

I think Macbook is also a Personal computer and it's a laptop too and it doesn't have Intel chip. No need to get agitated if somebody pointed a mistake on your post. See, you're still making that exact mistake due to that.

If you think Macs are PCs then that's your mistake, not mine.

It'll come before you know it.

I was supposed to wait 3+ months for my $1150 Legion 5 17" 5800H/3070… IIRC, I got it in around 2 months. Baller.

Also had to wait a long time for my Samsung Flex2 Alpha. Waited so long that I got the "next" year model with same specs though and Windows 11 😂 Mine was supposed to come with Win 10.

If you have a laptop now, I'd buy and wait for it. You can always cancel or return it if you find something in the meantime.
Just got my Thinkpad E15 in 2 days and love it! Smilie
