Lol, no set in the last 40+years has included a 2&3 iron. And I apologize on behalf of TaylorMade for not consulting with the great jimx200 before designing and marketing this set for sale, they CLEARLY did not get this tour pros approval!

This is a good entry level set for beginners with a lil extra $ or anyone looking for a lil more help and forgiveness. I didn't know TM was still doing the RBZ line, but I know the old ones were quite popular.

Did I say anything about what tour players are using? Nope. I use a 2 iron, doesn't mean it came with my set. No stock set over the last 40+yrs has come with a 2or3 iron. Most sets are 4-PW or 5-PW. A beginner doesn't need a 4i, they're gonna get frustrated, some will even say a 5i is too much. This is a BEGINNER set, not a tour pros set. This is a stock, easy to hit setup, with stronger lofts, more forgiveness, and standard length and lie. A tour pros bag changes per event, some courses will call for a driving iron, other courses will be best with a hybrid. Again, this IS NOT a tour pro set, this set is made for entry level golfers, higher handicappers, or even just someone who thinks it looks cool. What works for 1 player doesn't work for all players. I play blades because I like the look, less offset, and the rare occasion I flush one, nothing feels better! My handicap says I should prob play a GI or even a cavity back, but I struggle with GI because the offset throws me off. I play frequently, build clubs, and am an avid student of the game, I don't know everything about golf, but I'm always learning and more importantly, always having fun. If this set doesn't fit your game, cool, go play what you like.

This set is def not 2x as good as the Callaway box set. It is better, but if you need/want something better than the callway set then you shouldnt be looking at boxed sets. IMHO

Most people would be better served with only 8-9 clubs...the 14 is completely random (before the 14 rule players might have 40 clubs!). https://www.golfdigest.com/story/...club-limit

Lighter and easier to carry, cheaper and with fewer options, maybe you can focus on making solid contact more often. When I carry, I always dump at least 5 clubs.

I think you both are kind of making each others points by being overly extreme.

I would hardly call a 4 iron a driving iron, even it is the "utility iron" type. And 3 iron is pushing it. So basically hardly anyone (in the grand scheme) uses a true driving iron. Any I have a p790 UDI 2 iron and a Srixon zU85 3 iron, so maybe I am one of the relatively few. But the point is it is not a mass market club.

You are being over the top. I will agree with you that most people buy sets these days that go up to 4i max, even at the "players" iron category. However, most manufacturers still offer a stock 3-PW set in most irons at players level and better, including Taylormade Titleist, and Callaway. They sometimes even have a 3i in the game improvement lines because people these days are more likely to combo set with players at shorter irons and a game improvement at 3, 4, and/or 5.

I definitely had a set of Titleist DCI 981 from 25 years ago that was 3-PW, and a set of Titleist AP2 710 from 15 years ago that as 3-PW, and a set of Taylormade Tour Preferred MC from 10 years ago that was 3-PW.

But I agree this it a mass market set, and I would not expect it to have a 3i or a 4i. I think not having a 5i is a bit overkill, but they are again regular flex and clearly not for players with higher swing speed that can more easily play long irons.

Not for me and seems a bit expensive, but I guess a full setup for under $90/club isn't terrible.

This has always struck me as a weird set. I would bet that most golfers spending over $1k on a set of anything are probably building a set when being fitted. A high-end beginner's set never made much sense to me, especially with the value to dollar proposition (in 2022's inflationary economy, at least, with golf club values skyrocketing) of the Callaway Edge set, also from Costco. I trashed my Edge driver at the driving range before taking some lessons and investing in an Epic Speed but I LOVE my Edge irons. I also added an X2 Hot approach wedge and an X18 4 iron to the set. My point is that when learning you're going to make mistakes and possibly break things. I'd much rather it be a cheap club than a more expensive club in the beginning.

Played this morning and a two college players joined us and both carried 3 irons. It's a game saver, especially when you need a 200+ yard shot into the wind and need to keep it low. Right tool for the job.

For an average player with low club head speeds, long irons are impossible to hit accurately. Hybrids are much more forgiving. You may be a better player than most but club sets are designed for beginners/ intermediate players.
