You could just buy an unlocked refurbished iPhone 11 in excellent condition for only slightly more, and avoid having to change carriers or jump through any hoops.

This was my thought at first as I didn't want to port in and then port back out later. However, I personally wanted to have the full year warranty since this is new. Plan to keep the phone for as long as it is supported so every bit of warranty I can have the better.

Do what works for you, but some of the refurbished ones on eBay also include a year warranty.

It will unlock by itself after 60 days for Apple devices - nothing else required.
