It is intended for mounting on a wall such as above a garage/barn door. You could maybe find an adapter to convert it to a pole mount, or maybe get a "telephone pole" timber and build framing to accommodate the mounting width of this goal's arms, but by the time you did either of those, you'd probably be better off just buying a portable goal or one that is part of a kit with a pole included.

I had an existing pole in my yard that's a bit bigger than a normal basketball hoop pole. I bought 3 u-bolts and 3 perforated square tubes to mount this to the pole. Bolt the square tubes to the pole with the u-bolts and then bolt the backboard to the tubes.

I bought this a few days ago and trust me this thing was a pain in the @$$ to install. Had to get creative with it but the manual is crap unless you get professional help and equipment.
