Found this Amazon review that is chasing me away: This Crossbow has a known defect. Do Not Buy.

This Crossbow is being sold with a known defect. DO NOT BUY. Please read reviews on the "String Locking Mechanism" and you will see that numerous complaints about this product. When addressing issue with seller "Sportsman's Outfitters", my calls and e-mails have gone unanswered.

Seriously? This is overkill. Even pistol crossbows will work fine for that... but I think a decent air pistol or rifle wouldn't be much more noise and much more accurate.. if that's what you're trying to avoid. Problem with bows is that the arrows are expensive and easily damaged. An air rifle / pistol has plenty of power for your use and is much cheaper to practice with and more accurate.
