How to Adjust a Front Derailleur [youtu.be]
How to Adjust a Rear Derailleur [youtu.be]
One main reason MTB/gravel riders upgrade to 1x (one by) drivetrain is to simplify the derailleur adjustments. This bike can be upgraded to 1x later, but would require upgrading the rear hub/wheel. There's nothing wrong with 3x drivetrain on this bike. In my opinion, 1x is more of a quality-of-life upgrade, others might tell you 1x also saves weight.

I guess my point was some people bought this bike not because they would have spent $600 on an equivalent bike otherwise, but because they want a bike and the $125 price is their "bike budget" in total.
If you are the kind of person who's bike budget is $600, then yes, I can see where it would make since to spend hundreds on upgrades on this cheap bike, but then why not just spend the $600 on a bike that already has the better parts? Has anyone really "tested" this frame? Is it as good as an equivalent $600+ "name brand" bike frame, or will it crack/bend when put under the same stresses?
I would love an upright bike with step through frame that is XL or XXL, that is under $400. If you know of any i would consider them for sure. Most that i see are very cheap without disc brakes and no suspension at all, or they are cruisers with 1 to 6 speed. I live in a VERY mountainous region and i have to climb hills to get out of my neighborhood. I have even talked to dutch people about importing a netherlands style bike.. it's just very hard to find tall people bike with 36" inseam.
Took the bike trail riding with the wife yesterday and it was almost flawless. I'm really happy with it. I do notice a clunk on the downward push of the right pedal...not 100% sure what it is, but it could be the pedal itself. Maybe the bearing is loose?

You missed the point. 600 bucks on a new bike won't be a better bike. It will be the same bike.
That's the point.
This bike as it sits is virtually the exact same as a Trek Marlin 5. If you spend another 500 dollars on this bike, you aren't building something that is as good, you are building something that is way better. You'd have to spend closer to 1k to buy an equivalent bike new.

And is there any evidence that this bike has a "better" or equivalent frame? As in welds that would withstand the same abuse as the Merlin? Thx.

Who knows, these beginners with ~$100 initial budget may find that they like trail riding so much, some of them may get bit by the upgrade bug, This bike would oblige to future upgrades well into intermediate rider level without throwing the bike away.

Who knows about the frame. They are likely all made in the same factories. Though with Trek you have a bit more of a known product and a lifetime warranty - but is that a 600 dollar better value? To me it's not.
