Good budget saw with a lot of nice features. Main drawback is the throat plate has a lot of flex, and they don't sell a zero clearance insert, so you'll have to make your own to fix both issues. Hard part about that is there's some weird component underneath that you'll have to rout out a strip of the insert on the bottom in order for it to fit right.

Other than that, has been great for the price. Miter gauge is mostly crap, but that's pretty consistent in this price range.

This is a comment I posted about this saw earlier this month. I wound up buying Dewalt saws and many times found myself wishing I had saved all that extra dosh and bought Skil saws instead.
Quote :
This is a surprisingly great saw considering the price. Large cut depth compared to other jobsite saws. I expected the legs to be spindly and wobbly. Quite the opposite. It was the most sturdy of all the portable saws I tested (Skil 6307, Dewalt 749, Metabo HPT C10, Ridgid 4514, Bosch 4100). The fence system is on par with the other rack and pinion systems. Trunion adjustment is the easiest of all the saws I tested. Table surface was the flattest of them all as well. The slot in the top of the fence makes adding a stop easy peasy, or even adding a multi-track overlay.

In the cons category, the throat plate is much more flexible than I'm comfortable with. The miter gauge is definitely not excellent (the Dewalt miter gauge is an absolute joke and isn't suitable for a child's toy; the Metabo HPT miter gauge is hands down the best of the lot). Other than those two issues, no complaints with this little Skil. Oh, and it's quite a bit lighter than the other saws making it a breeze to fold up and move around. Even my mother was able to lift it into my truck.

Sure, but don't expect to do any fine woodworking without some mods and upgrades. You'll need to make a new throat plate, get a better blade, replace the miter gauge, make a zero clearance sled. It's a solid saw at a good price, but "beginner table saw" is all about your "beginner" use case.

Got this for slickly cheaper at Menards (after rebate) last month and it has been awesome so far. Could use some mods as the other commenters have mentioned, but it has been exactly what I was looking for. Way better than the rigid I tried but returned. It's actually accurate, super stable, and a great beginner saw for the price. I think it'll be just fine for the intermediate projects I'd like to do some day (assuming you make a zero clearance plate and crosscut sled).

Agree 100%. I made a crosscut sled for mine right away.
This is a great price, and this saw works really well for me. It also takes dado blades, and the throat plate for that is only about 12 bucks on Amazon.

Can you link to the sled design you used? I'm looking to make one for my Hercules saw.

And it only took 7 comments to talk about dados. How many things are you guys cutting notches in?

I ordered one, back ordered but still okay. I was thinking about a Ryobi but it only had 12 inch rip capacity, this should do for rippingsubfloor boards and random deck wood for trim pieces. I was going to buy the DeWalt but couldn't justify 600 dollars for the DIYer stuff I was going to use it for. I also liked the Ridgid but reviews keep saying it's not accurate no matter what you do, scared me off.

Bought within a few minutes of this hitting front page, but I guess I wasn't quick enough. Order is backordered, shipping from manufacturer. Hopefully it ships soon, was hoping to use it for a project.
