Well, for this version, as long as the direction is down.... These hang and plugged in for on and unplugged for off, there is no switch. As intended, forget LED bulbs that don't put out much heat, but use the old style incandescent (filament) all the way up to red heat lamps for the coldest weather.
Regardless, this is a good deal if you need it.
This is for keeping baby chicks warm. It's intended purpose is to provide heat.

Sure.... like a hanging light(s), you can use LED or whatever you want.
