Adding a NVME SSD is almost the first thing you need to do with this machine.

There's an empty M.2 slot, which can accept a 2280 form factor "gumstick" NVME SSD (but not a SATA M.2). Spend $40 more to get one & make it as the system drive. It will greatly improve the performance of this laptop.

The 1TB "old" HDD could be kept and used as media storage…

You don't need to. License is linked to bios. So just switch drive and reload windows.

I wouldn't buy a PC with a spinning drive in this day and age, unless my plan was to upgrade it to an SSD. Spinning drives use more power and are up to about 5-25x slower in some applications.

No go for me.. I'm too broke to be cheap. Would spend a bit more and get something that's more future proof and last longer.

Replacing the 5400rpm hard drive with NVME SSD is a MUST on this. It runs a lot faster now.
Spent $414 with the SSD not including tax. It's a good buy.

For anyone looking to transfer hdd contents to ssd, the one I use is Macrium Reflect Free Home edition.
Popped the SSD in. Ran the program then took old HDD out or format the old HDD for media storage. I just took it out as personal preference.

Hm, Gen 11 processor, right? Isn't it a bit early to need refurbishment? 👀

If you look carefully underneath for the original serial number under the sticker you can use that to download the bios updater

Also, would I need a custom screw to screw in the NVMe drive? Or would it come with the laptop? thanks

Just got the laptop and installed a NVMe Drive. The screw was in the mount already. It's in the laptop. Just buy the drive. nothing else is needed.

Also to simplify without having to watch the disassembly. Remove the rubber strips under the laptop, there are screws in there. Remove all the screws from under and start prying from the hinge area. The cover will open. remove the NVMe screw and install the drive. Screw in and cover on. All done.

Just received. Put in SSD. Didn't have usb install disk handy so opened laptop to make one.

This is not nice refreshed install. There is no "Hello Welcome to Windows" start up page. It logged right in. Computer already named. Not a fresh install. Makes me wonder what other crap is still on the drive... Not taking time to find out... I'm formatting that drive.

Firewall did immediately block some kind of upload once it was connected to the network.

Just have to hope whatever company these came from had good IT security practices... These are unformatted PCs straight from someone else.

Ok these two laptops I ordered are going right back. Keep triggering my firewall trying to access malicious sites everytime I open them. I could remove the hard drive but I don't know if this is one of those things that hide in the bios or firmware.
