Just wanted to update. After turning off Fast Start mine no longer dies in hibernation. It only lost 2% battery after a full day hibernating so I'm happy again.

I can see a lot of thumbs up here, so this might be a dumb question, but how good of a deal is this, as in, would it better to wait for Prime Day, etc.? Or would this be noteworthy regardless of time of year/holiday.

A deal is only good to you if that fulfill your requirements and then has a bargain price. Say if you're looking for gaming laptop, this deal is no good for you even at $100 less. So, unless you specify your requirements, hard to just tell if this is good or bad.

More of a productivity laptop than a gaming laptop. Nice to have those bells and whistles, but not necessary.

Too generic statement actually. productivity can be just coadding and documentation or even 4K Video editing and for them, the type of laptops required are completely different. So, mention what are your cases, what kind of applications you are planning to run, requirement of portability etc.

Can somebody comment on the quality of these vs the Thinkpad lineup? Was comparing this to the X13 deal available- same config. The "new series" premium still a bit high on the X side. Thinking about jumping to this for genera home use

It's a decent deal - not something that's worth jumping on just because of the deal.

Why do manufacturers solder components down to the board? Does it allow them to make a slimmer and less heavy machine? Not necessarily talking about this model, but just in general.

I'm not sure that's my question. . Since I posted this deal, saying that it is a good deal may sound like I am trying to Promote it. But for a very newly released laptop with the best low power Processor, USB4 Support, most powerful Integrated Graphics, good quality display and decent amount of Ram and fast PCIe Gen 4 Storage, this is actually a very good deal. Now regarding your question about Prime Day, I don't think that will have any impact on the price of this device in the 1st place. The Intel counterpart for this laptop is almost $100 more, does have far lesser battery run time, low performance iGPU and lower multi-threaded performance. Also, Prime Day does not really provide discount on brand new models and offers more deals on Clearance.

Yes that is true. And also, they normally go with LPDDR memory which is Low Power DDR. LPDDR always consume less power than their normal DDR counterparts and generate less heat but they always come as Soldered. Because of that reason, for smaller Sub Notebooks, manufacturers use LPDDR memory to reduce power consumption and space saving, at the cost of soldered memory.
For bigger laptops, I think the sole reason is "Going with the Trend" to make Laptop Slim and Light and I don't support that. You'll see lot of 15 or 16 inch laptops now a days coming with soldered memory for just being half of a mm thin.
