Gold used to grant access to the concierge rooms, but that's Platinum and above now. Of course, most of them aren't open these days anyway. Room upgrades have been scarce for some time (for me anyway), and I've been Titanium for a couple years and lifetime Platinum otherwise.
Bottomline is that I wouldn't run out and get Chase Reserve in order to receive Marriott Gold.
Gold used to grant access to the concierge rooms, but that's Platinum and above now. Of course, most of them aren't open these days anyway. Room upgrades have been scarce for some time (for me anyway), and I've been Titanium for a couple years and lifetime Platinum otherwise.

I went through the chase website and clicked on the promo. Within the promo page they ask you to enter your Bonvoy membership number. Sent them my number and within 3 days my account has been upgraded to Gold
