Ryzen is the 3580u which is 3+ years old.

I think people are trying to pull a sneaky by just listing a processor type and not the model number… Catching people that are sleeping.

ie: look at this rad laptop with i7 and nvidia gpu!

Could be an i7-740qm and an nvidia 425m (w/1GB of ddr3… not ever gddr3) from like 12 years ago…
Yes does Win 11.

I bought the 13.5" version of this, actually had issue with first one making high pitched fan noise. Did warranty swap with Microsoft and new one is good. Yeah, older processor and 8gb of ram but if not a power user you're getting extremely nice build quality and good high res display at cheap price. I'd recommend it for secondary computer or someone with simple needs. This was $1100 2 years ago so at $369 now I think is a good deal.
I bough this last week and it arrived a couple days ago. It's surprising how much larger the screen feels than the 13.5 version. This is replacing an Acer Swift 3 from 2 years ago that has a supposedly newer and better i7 processor. Cinebench scored 940 for single-core and 3800 for multi-core for the SL3. The Acer scored 1080 and 3300. The bigger screen and better build quality on the SL3 easily wins out between the two. Totally worth it to buy this instead of paying 3-4 times more for a new 15" SL4.

Battery appears to be new. Look out for LED bleed though. Not as bad as the Acer had, but there still is some on the bottom edge of the SL3. Comes with a 1 year Microsoft warranty, then a year after of the All-State one.

And it's beaten even by a 2-year-old Ryzen 3: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/comp...3577vs3664

Personally, I use Vivaldi, a more privacy oriented version of Firefox.

This will be fine for web browsing and light office work. I use a Ryzen 3 3200U with only 4GB of RAM for web/Discord and Parsec/Chrome Remote Desktop usage. No issues with it. Even when I have like 15 tabs open.

You're obviously not going to get blown away by the specs with an unfortunate zen+ processor only 8 GB of RAM and minuscule SSD. But it is a Surface laptop 15" with higher res touchscreen for under $400 so the quality for this price is nice at least. It was a $1200 laptop at one point.

I could see this being a good investment for an older person/couple with light usage in mind or a non-college student as well as a basic but well built machine. This will probably hold up better than a newer $400-ish machine from a build quality standpoint even if the newer machine has a newer processor/more RAM in it even for light tasks. Meaning the newer machine will probably have a terrible screen compared to this and build quality wont even be close from a keyboard/trackpad and chassis feel.

So besides the 'excellent' build quality that surface books have a fairly commonplace reputation for, is there anything else really riding for this Laptop besides it already being 2-3 years old? Like specs aside for the ryzen cpu, touchscreen, wifi card and such, does this have a removable or upgradeable ram slot? Or better yet as well, if the battery were to go out, is that replaceable in any sense of the word?

Just looking for a potential windows laptop replacement for student usage, so doesn't have to be anything particularly fancy, but for reference this would be coming from an aging chromebook. While I am not particularly invested in any single brand or laptop, does anyone have any suggestions by chance for student driven laptops within the $300-$700 range? Any insight in that regard would be appreciated!

Di they check the seria with return? I purchased two in two separate orders. One of the two is defective but I don't know which order the defective one belongs to.
