No. It doesn't extend like a selfie stick and is primarily for shooting video. It's a gimbal. If you don't know what a gimbal is, odds are you don't need it and can save your $50.
Best way to explain is yes, It's a selfie stick for videographers. It makes your camera shake not happen. You can also flip it the other way and just have better stabilization for your videos (adds a level of professional feel to it) your camera probably already has a certain degree of stabilization, this will pretty much remove all your shake.

I had this gimbal for a long time, since launch on Kickstarter. I think it was great overall. I liked it more than the DJI Osmo/OM competitor line but haven't tried the new OM5 (which has the same weight limits as the OM3 and 4).
Smooth-Q2 is strong for phone-only class (read the weight limit info) but none of these phone gimbals are rated strong enough for add-ons like phone lenses + cases so I later upgraded to Zhiyun Crane-M series.
I've got a DJI RSC2 for my big mirrorless camera, but for phones and my smaller mirrorless camera have loved Zhiyun's design and value.
This gimbal's biggest issue is probably that the clip is clearly designed in the era when all phones had curved edges, but many recent models have gone back to flat sides. Personally, it still worked for my iPhone 12 Pro Max in a slim case, but fatter cases will be an issue because even though the clip can handle the width and weight usually, it's the thickness of the edges that are harder to match.
There's handy PDFs on their site and elsewhere showing phone models that it fits.
DJI is Zhiyun's biggest competitor, but both are Chinese companies and big enough to be sold at Best Buy and the big online camera stores. I'll likely own more products from each in the future. Both great - though Zhiyun is a little more daring with their ideas while DJI is a little more polished.
Do yourself a favor and get the DJI pocket if you don't mind spending a bit more. These things are such a hassle especially if you need to take your phone out of a case for it to fit. Also, it doesn't come with a case which is a must imo
I agree a DJI Pocket 2 or Insta 360 X2 is more usable than these gimbal only devices.
Owned a Smooth X from Zhiyun and tried for weeks to get the handle/grip to hold my light Galaxy phone steady. My hand took smoother picture than their gimbal, not exaggerating. Countless emails and videos sent to customer service, watched tons of Youtube videos, but nothing helped. Sent it back.
Does this work without needing an app? I am returning a DJI gimbal and all the other Chinese gimbal's i've seen all require an app to run it. Unfortunately so far 100% of them all are incompatible with Samsung devices .
$50 vs $500. I sure would hope the Insta is more usable. But why stop there? Why not spend $1,000, $1,500, or $3000 on something EVEN more better?
Why would you spend $3000 on a gimbal? Sure, if you're only considering price then of course $50 is cheaper. But when you consider content creation, you'll find these gimbals limited compared to the devices mentioned. These are similar in size. Also, you can get original DJI pocket for under $200 and similar alternatives for even less. Even the osmo action would be a better purchase. For me $200 and under is the sweet spot for these gimbal alternatives.
