I'd like to mention though both just came back to Xbox Game Pass as of 7/5, along with Yakuza 0, which is also really solid.
IMO though the mini-games are somewhat redundant but it's worth going through the story at least once for 0, Kiwami and Kimwami 2.

The combat is more satisfying in the original Yakuza series and IMO more brutal---not turn-based and more violet, less funny.
Also, to cater to male audiences there are more realistic sexual contents (not X-rated adult contents but more like sexy real person videos by Japanese adult video actresses) in the original series.
I enjoyed both but they are very different.
