I just received three LPs from this sale today. Not even in a regular box, they were just sent via UPS in a plastic bag without any additional protection. Needless to say the jackets were all damaged.
I've gotten a few Target Exclusive vinyls. They're just a variation of the original, most notably the vinyl itself will not be plain black. So Target is the only retailer that sells it in that exact combination. I love the different colored vinyls so I adore Target Exclusives. Sometimes the jackets are different as well. The Weeknd's Dawn FM jacket was different than the original release.

You on the other hand made it sound so dramatic, like most shipped LPs would have problem. As always - YMMV, if you prefer to go to store in person - by all means, just keep in mind that selection is limited in each store.
It wasn't even marked; it was with the other regular-priced vinyl records. I scanned it and I was pleasantly surprised.
Notorious BIG: Life After Death for $18 (marked down from $54)
Arcade Fire: WE for $16 (marked down from $32)
Beach House: Once Twice Melody for $8 (marked down from $32)
Only Life after Death was marked as clearance. A bunch of other things scanned at 50% off as well. Target typically doesn't have much in their record section that interests me, but I'll probably swing through some other local stores to see if I get lucky again.

Where are you located. Life after death was $54 at both my local stores would love to pick it up for $18
Can confirm the same. Bought Halsey's IICHLIWP, and it came in no record mailer. Had a bent corner and a rip as it looked like someone just shoved it into a small box to make it fit.
Target offered to replace it, but I had to mail it back and wait for it to get there for them to ship a replacement. Not worth it for a record I'm likely to open.
Lesson learned, and hope my other two records coming today are in better shape.
Last time I order vinyls for shipping from Target.

I'm guessing the people with problems get their stuff shipped from the same warehouse.
