It's just you, I went through the deal history of this QNAP model and prices are same since last year Thanksgiving/Black Friday. Before that in 2020 it was being sold for $429 and before that 400.

Prices are not climbing, lucky for us it's still in the same range.

P. S: I'm looking to buy DS920+ and hoping to get for same price as last year black Friday.

I recently built a home NAS using old Lenovo M series small form factor computer hardware which I bought from FB marketplace for $50- i5 4th gen with 8GB ram(non ECC), 128 GB SSD, built in gigabit NIC

Added additional 8 GB DDR3(non ECC) ram ($15 from FB)
Added 2 x 2 TB 2.5 HDD 7200 rpm ($50 from FB).

Total cost: $115

Installed TrueNAS scale VM on Proxmox VE
Assigned 8 GB ram
Assigned a 32 GB of 128 GB ssd as boot drive
SCSI Pass through 2 x 2 TB HDD with RAID 1(mirror) setup

I also run few Linux containers running on the same box running proxmox VE

Hope this helps for someone who have slim budget like me and don't want to spend insane amount of money on these brands.

What holds all the drives or maybe I should ask how many drives are you using?

the SFF chasis has one 2.5 inch HDD slot which have good clearance to rest the SSD(boot drive) on top of one 2.5 inch HDD, and I have replaced the cd drive slot to make room for second 2.5 inch HDD, so total of 3 drives

1 - 128 GB SSD
2 - 2 TB 2.5 inch HDD
3 - 2 TB 2.5 inch HDD

Raid level 1(disk mirroring) on 2 X 2TB HDD.

Hope this helps Smilie

Thought you might say something like that - was looking to use several spinners so case is key and the form factor these offer are hard to beat.
