Just a reminder that GE appliances are really just Haiers nowadays. Plus these fridges will not accept any off brand water filters.

These can be hacked to accept 3rd party filters. You have to purchase the factory plug that would be installed if you didn't hook up a water line to it. Dremel out the RFID chip and tape it into the filter compartment. Then it'll work with any filter. But it'll no longer keep track of filter life (which is really just a countdown, not any sort of flow measurement).

Don't usually post but felt compelled to chime in here. I have a similar GE model that ices up in the back spine and local GE repair center couldn't fix after 5 tries. So HD refunded my purchase price under their Ext Warranty. Before that I owned a french door Samsung that stopped defrosting after 2 years, and local shops couldn't even get parts for it. French door fridges all have 3/5 reliability scores by Consumer Reports, every brand, a few even lower scores. Some friends have told me their fridge problems too, all french door models. If you buy one, regardless of brand, get the Ext Warranty. I'm the kind of shopper who never buys Ext Warranties , but I learned my lesson with modern day fridges. To dispel a misconception, GE appliances, after the Haier deal, continues to be made in the same Kentucky headquarters and factories by the same people. They've even expanded over time. Whatever GE had made overseas before is still made overseas and whatever they made in KY is still made in KY. The OP's deal is a good price (I paid more for mine 6 years ago). Just make sure you get the Ext Warranty.

This is a fire deal. GE almost never goes on sale and among fridges, it's the best of the best. and it's a full size 27 cu ft to boot

Yep, GE Appliances was bought out by the Chinese. No longer a US company.

I know the sentiment around here is that Samsung and LG fridges need frequent repair and aren't as good as say whirlpool, but how does GE hold up?

I have a GE profile that's about 15 years old. It's holding up overall, but not to say it's without any issues. Circuit board replaced, fan in freezer, defroster to name a few) But I've been able to find parts and fix myself and keep it running.
Not sure how new ones will be, as someone said, China bought the GE appliance division a few years back. But does that mean it's more like Haier now? Or is Haier more like GE now? China also owns Volvo. 🤷🏻 ♂️

Energy usage is high on this. Easy to find fridges is the 440 khw range.

Sad think is a lot of them aren't made in Appliance Park in Kentucky anymore. We are getting a GE Cafe oven and advantium microwave but the matching GE fridge is made in China. I assume in a Haier factory. Steered clear. Same with the front load washing machines made in China. Meanwhile Samsung and LG washers are made in the US

Old GE fridge and washer in our rental was made in USA. Will say that GE fridge failed within a year of our lease (couldn't keep food cold) and they replaced with a Whirlpool

I am about to take the gamble with a Samsung Bespoke fridge with internal water and ice dispenser. Reviews seem good and it doesn't have the ice machine issue a lot of earlier Samsung fridges had

I wouldn't put LG and Samsung in the same reliability category. Consumer Reports and general sentiment in forums says LG is much more reliable. LG actually is ranked #1 by CR.
My personal experience is LG is not reliable. Saw two fridges die early and their support was awful. Took months to end up with a resolution.

Just hook it to an RO system and you never need to change the filter.

I own several rentals… GE always the best/most reliable appliance brand. Doesn't matter if the Chinese bought them out, I am not going to Samsung or LG… that's for sure.
