There's plenty of laptops today with the 5000 or 6000 series Ryzen chips and OLED or similar panels that will give these new MacBook Air a run for their money.

Imho, the M1 air at the 999 (and sale price of 8-850) was a good deal, but it's too hard to excuse 8/256 in a $1300 laptop.
Haha they last half as long. Amd soc engineers wish they could work at apple fool

I don't think there is any laptop that can match Macbook's battery life/power efficiency. Other than that, yes, there are plenty of laptops that are as powerful, and offer screens that are just as good, plus more memory/storage, for 2/3 of the price or less

Overpriced. 16GB for anything serious. Storage is a total ripoff. No touchscreen. Maybe at employee pricing?
Apple doesn't do touchscreens on laptops. M1/M2 architecture currently blows away everything else.

Apples and oranges bud. If you're too dense to know the difference don't comment. M1/M2 is a whole new architecture and having one company design the CPU, the hardware and the OS/software is a very different experience.

M1 was at Costco for $850, still a solid machine at that price with all day battery life

True, but like most things in life, deep down you know if you want the Apple or not and if you want it, those other mish mash machines where the hardware, CPU, and OS all come from different companies will give you a very different experience.

It's only Apples and oranges if you think it is a better experience, which is the opinion of the buyer. There are certainly advantages to Intel/AMD machines that you don't get from Apple, including the ability to shop different manufacturers to get the options you want (like the ability to upgrade RAM and SSD when needed).
For me, spending $180 for 8GB of RAM and $200 for 256GB of SSD is a very different experience. But it's definitely NOT a better one! Not sure who should be embarassed more -- Apple for charging those prices or buyers for paying those ridiculous prices for upgrades.
