There's plenty of laptops today with the 5000 or 6000 series Ryzen chips and OLED or similar panels that will give these new MacBook Air a run for their money.

Imho, the M1 air at the 999 (and sale price of 8-850) was a good deal, but it's too hard to excuse 8/256 in a $1300 laptop.

Pretty much wrong on all counts. I *am* an IT person (over 30 years) who mostly uses/manages/sells Windows-based machines, but also have clients who are all Mac-based so I own Windows desktops, laptops and 2 MacBook Pro's (a 14" M1 Pro and a 16" M1 Pro) and had a M1 Mac Mini and yes, I do look at specs. You're shooting in the dark if you don't.

I will be completely honest in saying that while using my MacBook or Dell XPS laptop, I don't notice that one is any better (performance-wise) than the other. They run different OS's but the MacBook definitely isn't night/day better than the Dell or vice versa.

With regards to minimal RAM and swap to SSD, we'll see how the SSD wear is on that Mac SSD in a few years vs a system with 16/32GB RAM, where swap to disk is minimal. And while SSD is fast, RAM is magnitudes faster.

Having the flexibility to upgrade RAM or SSD is great. Buy small, pay less to upgrade yourself compared to giving Apple 10X more money for the same thing and having it fixed in there for life.

BE CAREFUL with this, because you're actually buying the $150 gift card as the total is deducted from the purchase price of the MacBook. So if you return the MacBook you don't get a refund for the gift card; you're stuck with it.

Got an $100 apple gift card from target 2 years ago and haven't had a chance to use it. Jumped on this deal and finally got rid of this $100 gift card. Now I just need to find a way to get rid of the new $150 gift card lol.

Yes, you can. I fixed my 12" inch Macbook with an Apple gift card earlier this year. Kind of regret paying $400 to get it fixed, could've put that money toward this deal.

i still have $1k from target deal as well. amazon/bestbuy always has better price thats why I still have my balance untouched...

I have been using lenovo, acer etc forever. Non of them lasted as macbook pro 2015 (still running smooth). That being said I pulled the trigger last week for m1 air base model and no regrets. I dont see any issue with 8gb. I could not wait for m2, otherwise I would not hesitate to buy it.

Could always do the thermal pad trick on the m1 air. It makes the chassis get hotter but only under load does it get hot. It does however drop the temps significantly And at that point who's running a blendr render while wearing short shorts on their lap? 🤔 🤨

I can't believe we're still starting at 256gb in 2022 for a premium laptop. I'm still a big apple fanboy, but they need to bump up the base to 512 next year.

it's called an educated guess. if apple decided to ditch previously used 2x128gb setup in the macbook pro 13 that has not changed anything otherwise, it is probably because apple is sourcing 256gb nand only for cheaper supply control. doubt that apple is reserving 128gb nands just for macbook air m2 when they decided not to have 2x128gb in still more expensive macbook pro m2.

Costco is currently $849, but it might have dipped to $799 last year. Also a SOLID deal if you have the Costco Credit card that doubles your warranty
