Ive gotten the first gens and 2nd gens. The mic has stopped working in both sets. The 2nd gen had been replaced and now the replacements are doing the same. Can't use the mic, which is why I got them. They only last about a year, so take that as you will. But after have 3 sets fail, I'm done with AirPods

Hmmm. BB has the third gen refurb for 107. I know its always a crapshoot with those things though. Anyone speak on the quality of refurb at BB for headphones? I know with amazon sometimes they just throw a dirty pair in the box, or you might get a brand new one. I wonder if the big box stores do a more thorough cleaning? Im at TotalTech member as well so I get some more warranty time with it...

This would have been a good deal last fall. With 4th gen waiting to be announced, buying 2nd gen now seems to be less meaningful unless you can't at all.

For AirPods, I would recommend always getting the 2nd year warranty, if even just to be able to send them in before month 24 to get a new battery. Due to their size and design, these are pretty much made to not last past ~4 years and definitely not user-serviceable. Ifixit did a tear down and found they can't be taken apart without pretty much destroying the device, everything was glued down.
