I wrote this in the previous thread, it was voted helpful so including it here again:

I got this laptop late last year for a family member and also use it quite a bit myself. For $345 I think it's impossible to beat as a general-purpose laptop; this is better than many $500 "deals" I see on SD. The quad-core i3-1125G4 CPU is as fast as the i5 and i7 equivalents [cpubenchmark.net](which also only have 4 cores). The other pluses for me:

Good build quality - this has similar materials and feels a bit more solid than the 7000-series convertible I just got (7425), which has more keyboard flex
Decent screen for the price - mediocre color coverage, but far better contrast and viewing angles than TN screens you usually see at this price
Good port selection and full-service USB-C
Upgradability with 2 SODIMM slots, 1 of them free
Reliable Intel wifi chip (I can't stand the flaky Realtek chips found on many cheap laptops)
Good battery life thanks to fairly large battery
Good keyboard feel (decent amount of travel and a good balance between cushiness and tactility); unlike many HPs and older Dells with silver keys, the lettering is legible
Above-average speakers
Nice "quality of life" features like backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader built into power button
Quiet fan

The only real downside is that it runs fairly hot on the bottom, so not great for on-lap use. But the upper side doens't get very warm. Also, Dell's Power Manager (download from Windows Store) has thermal profiles, allowing you to choose more performance, less noise, or less heat. It also lets you set charging thresholds, e.g., to keep your battery below 100% to optimize battery health - very useful if you mostly use this plugged in.

Here's a YouTube review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1BydFwlGPw, just keep in mind the review model has the 300 nit rather than 250 nit display.

That's a review (from 2020) of a much older model, before the Inspiron 5000 series got a big upgrade in design and build quality. Pretty much none of it applies to this 5410.

If you don't have the AMEX offer, Wells Fargo has a 5% cashback offer if you activate it on the website and use your Wells Fargo Credit or Debit card.

Chase also has 5% CB. If I remember right, Amex offer is $599+, so you need to buy 2 laptops ))

Thanks a lot!

It seems great, but this review makes me wonder though since battery life and build quality are key reasons I would look to this:

https://www.digitaltrends.com/com...00-review/

Dell Inspiron 14 5000 review: Too cheap for its own good?
MSRP $580.00
Score Details
"The Dell Inspiron 14 5000 is a cheap laptop that feels and performs like one."

Pros
Decent productivity performance
Touchpad works reliably
Affordable
Good expandability

Cons
Poor build quality
Battery life is awful
Clunky design

Performance is similar although the Acer will run cooler because of Ryzen and larger chassis. However, it's quite a bit heavier, and lacks the full-service USB-C, backlit keyboard, and fingerprint reader on the Dell. It's also not clear whether the screen on the Acer is IPS or TN. For me the Dell is easily the better buy.

This is a review of a older model. OP's a 2021 model.

i3 at $350 is not a deal but just that price!
this is a quad-core i3, unlike the i3-1115g4. much closer to a i5 than a typical i3.

i even have a $40 off $200 dell amex offer, but wife said we have enough computers :\

I like your good review.

A couple things though - yes that i3 you compared to the i5 and i7 isn't far off, the i3 here is a much higher TDP chip, almost double - at least in your comparison. All the chips can scale pretty low to a decent amount. The comparison isn't exactly fair, I imagine the the higher TDP variants of an i5 or i7 is noticeable.

Also, I agree having a real USB-C port, not just some data or whatever - but I've been lambasted for downplaying no TB4 on a regular laptop and that someone in the future may miss it - as if someone buying sub $500 machines is concerned with TB4 in 5 years.

Also, to your point - that older one is running a 10th gen CPU and Intel finally did better with the 11th gen and really hit it out of the park with 12th gen (which this deal is 11th, but 11 is closer to 12th gen than 10th is to 11).
