Fire ecosystem is so limiting. I'd almost tell you to keep your tab a, but I returned mine because it was slow and laggy as hell.
The latest firmware is problematic with the toolbox. Amazon is trying to stop it. If you have the latest Firmware, it makes "debloating" a issue. You can still install the google playstore though..
If you are talking about "rooting" this for lineage , again it requires a low enough firmware and a specific model as I recall. Most were happy just getting rid of the bloat and the google playstore.
This "update" came down the pipe months ago so I could not say if the toolbox will work for you. If you are buying this to use the toolbox, it is important that you DO NOT conect it to the internet at first bootup. There is a procedure to turn it on, but when you are prompted to conect to wifi, you do it in a way the conection fails and lets you bypass that part of the setup. Once you do, you can get in to the device info and find your firmware revision # . That info will be enough to know if you can debloat it.
All this info is at "xda-developers" with a better how to write up and possibly links and vids.. I offer this info off the top of my head, and is not ment as anything more than " I think you can do it".. You should do your own homework before starting.
Good luck..
The 20% discount is irrelevant to this particular sale because you have to ship your trade and have it evaluated before it comes into effect, and for me that took about 5 days after I shipped it.
It is a great deal, because the 20% is from the retail price....not the discounted price. I think the gift card values of old Fire Tablets may be closer to their eBay prices than the card value for other brands.
I traded an old gen HD10 for the current model and after all discounts it cost me about $12 plus some tax.

Apparently, the 20% discount is given off the full MSRP of $149 making the 20% a discount of $30.

I just worry they Amazon might toss in a bonus offer once it's officially Prime Day (after Midnight). Last year it was 3 free months of Disney+/Hulu bundle.

i made a slight mistake in not spending the $25 gift card on other things before checking out the hd 10 - i could have got 10% back on the $75-minus-$30 - but the way i did it i'm getting 10% back on the $75-minus-$30-minus-$25
with 5% cashback being normal i'll consider the upgrade cost to be $19 - i could have got it down to $17.75 ... i hope my calculations are correct.
