May want to check with some of your local power companies to see if they offer any rebates for installing smart thermostats . Mine offered a 50 dollar rebate

Yep, Tampa Florida here, Teco electric has a $50 rebate that I used for mine.
Just as a heads up, the 3rd gen does not have the new thread protocol, whereas the newer (and cheaper) one does.
But if you're an all google house anyway, it probably doesn't "matter" too much.
Yeah it might not "matter" because the nest hub's serve as border routers and allow other thread/matter devices to connect to them. So while the 3rd gen thermostats won't communicate over the new protocol there are a lot of ways to communicate with the thermostats in home automation via Google's Device Access in the cloud. Unfortunately it's not as easy as the "Work with Nest" used to be but still possible for those inclined to make it happen.

Do you know of an air quality monitor (PM 2.5) that can be connected to 3rd gen nest? Airthings and awair have both lost/stopped supporting nest, and I killed my legacy connection to works with nest accidentally.
Honestly, I really dislike my nest 3 due to google breaking everything and literally years later not filling the gaps they created.
I'd go with something else. There are plenty of good Wi-Fi/smart t-stats out there these days, and these nests aren't really all that great with integration and the way they operate. A lot of these 3rd gen ones seem to have problematic base units as well, which I have fallen victim to as well. I dunno if they've fixed them or not with later produced ones. They do sell the base alone for $50, but when they come in stock they are gone almost instantly kinda like the video card thing of the last couple years. You can get used/open box on eBay for double the cost, but that's probably a big gamble as well. And of course there are plenty of posts on the internet about problems with the base as well.
