wtf. lol. What's the catch here? Does it power off every day and have security holes directly for the Chinese? 😂

Before Chinese companies entered the arena I remembered it mainly just Linksys, DLink and Netgear for mainstream consumer routers. I've always had issues with my Netgear, but somehow I thought buying a more expensive Netgear would resolve the issue. if I could go back in time I would just tell the 16yo me to get the WRT54G

Then when Buffalo, TP-Link and TrentNet joined the party along with ddwrt, finally things got better

D-Link existed far before TP-Link. They are one of the original manufacturers of consumer routers. They have the same issues as TP-Link does. Mediocre reliability and software updates (firmware). I used to own TP-Link and well before that I owned D-Link routers. Never again I said. You get what you pay for with routers.

they used to be good ..... "sighs" but that was like 90's, 2000's era of routers

think they got bought out, same as linksys

fortunately by that time asus had entered the market and personally i have never had issues with an asus router so far "knock on wood"

All I have read is trash talk here. This is a basic router for those who don't have a router or upgrading from a 10+ years old router. If you want to do fancy things or customizing, then this probably is not the router. Please stop talking trash for a basic router that will work for 95% of average consumers. You are some 5% I do not want to ever meet with. lol.... that said, Thanks slickdeal and op who posted this. I got one for basic needs.

Buy 6 of them to get free shipping and then you can create a mesh network by putting them in every corner of your house.

D-Link = Don't Link.
The only one company you should avoid from Taiwan.
I trust Taiwan over China any day. You probably have 90% of China made products you should goodwill them all

It's got to be a nightmare to link 6 of these things together.

Asus constantly updates their firmware, years after release. TP-Link does not. Their routers are filled with security holes/flaws once they stop updating them. This can be confirmed by checking their firmware update history on a model that has been out for several years. For instance check this high end TPlink. Last update? 2019: https://www.tp-link.com/us/suppor.../#Firmware
You have to expect that when getting a TPLink.
Agreed on the TP link statement 100%

Just for reference...

https://www.walmart.com/ip/D-Link.../105216736 [walmart.com]

$50

With this offer, $17. That is the definition of a slickdeal. [Not in market for a low end router, but if I was. I would jump on this.]
Thing is a router is the last thing you should go low end on, i'd rather have a budget smart phone over a budget router...

Will be using this as an extender since I have a long 1 floor home with my main router at an extreme end of my home and a huge brick fireplace in middle. Ill just hook this up to CAT5 outlet at other extreme and transmit. Better than what I have now.
