Before Chinese companies entered the arena I remembered it mainly just Linksys, DLink and Netgear for mainstream consumer routers. I've always had issues with my Netgear, but somehow I thought buying a more expensive Netgear would resolve the issue. if I could go back in time I would just tell the 16yo me to get the WRT54G

Then when Buffalo, TP-Link and TrentNet joined the party along with ddwrt, finally things got better

think they got bought out, same as linksys

fortunately by that time asus had entered the market and personally i have never had issues with an asus router so far "knock on wood"

All I have read is trash talk here. This is a basic router for those who don't have a router or upgrading from a 10+ years old router. If you want to do fancy things or customizing, then this probably is not the router. Please stop talking trash for a basic router that will work for 95% of average consumers. You are some 5% I do not want to ever meet with. lol.... that said, Thanks slickdeal and op who posted this. I got one for basic needs.

Will be using this as an extender since I have a long 1 floor home with my main router at an extreme end of my home and a huge brick fireplace in middle. Ill just hook this up to CAT5 outlet at other extreme and transmit. Better than what I have now.
