They are comparable. Both rated 7000MB/s READ and 5100MB/s WRITE (2TB model), both with endurance of 1200TBW. If using with PS5, SN850 works out of box, and you will get around 6500MB/s READ test when formatted and tested with PS5. For 980 PRO you will need to update firmware with Samsung Magician Software on your PC. If not upgraded you will get around 5500MB/s READ on your PS5. Just to notice that you can't upgrade firmware using NVMe to USB adapter. You need to either put your SSD directly on motherboard, or (if older MB present) use NVMe to PCIe adapter. Hope that helps.
Is this better than the 207$ WD 2tb with heatsync going on amazon ?
I ended up getting 980 pro but would like to know for reference.
From my research you won't notice a difference between the two for gaming or every task, but the Samsung 2TB is a bit faster than the 2TB WD, and the 1TB WD is a bit faster than the 1TB Samsung. But not enough to make a real world difference. I'm a video editor and i have the 1TB WD and the Samsung 2TB in separate external enclosures (until i build new systems that uses PCIe Gen4 storage) I really wanna get another 2TB or even a 4TB for an external.
