If you're OK with this just being a Facebook Messenger/WhatsApp calling device for $35 for a couple of years, sure. I wouldn't put my faith in anything else continuing to work on this device though.

Edit: Looks like the video streaming apps like Netflix were only ever available on the Portal TV device, and was never available on any of these smart displays.
It is not free.
You will get it if you spend 35 bucks.

Seems it has not yet been cracked, so we aren't getting a good-looking Android device for thirty-five bucks. Nostalgic for the HP Touchpad fire sale.

I decided to check this out. Figured I would go with the 2 pack in Black for $69.98. 4 year Geek Squad warranty was only $8.99 each as well so I got it. If I don't like it then back it goes to Best Buy. I did read that it can also be used as a picture frame so if the displays are nice then these might be worth keeping.

While this deal is no longer active, the tweet pretty much says it all. An 80 percent discount seems too good to be true, and in this case, it is. Earlier in June, we reported that Meta was planning to stop making the Portal for consumers. This is an instance where it's clear that a company is making a cash grab while it can.

This device is unlikely to receive much love going forward. One customer in the reviews shares that some features like Netflix and Hulu no longer work as of April 2022. It's OK if you knew this going in, but not everyone who bought it probably does. It'd have been better if Meta disclosed this on the listing itself. (It didn't.)

Best Buy is charging a $4 recycling fee for each unit in California. When I ordered this earlier from Amazon, there was no recycling fee. Boo!
