1st phone has white spot and sent to Apple. Apple denied the warranty due to 3rd party modification, and I think the screen is replaced. Still under warranty until 04/22, which is useless.
2nd phone, screen is cracked and screen is replaced too. Still under warranty until 03/22, which is useless too.
3rd phone, heavily used and out of warranty. Screen seems original. I can see bad scratch front and back.
Be very very careful and know you are taking your chance.

Varies. I bought like 7 XRs and about 6 of them were in decent condition. No scratches. 1 had a screen that didn't sit flush. I traded them all into various places so I didn't use them. From what I've read, it's a crapshoot in terms of the parts and batteries being replaced in them. I would be hesitant to buy this to use as a main phone for any long period of time. For a kid, it should be okay since they won't know any better.
Warranty on them were somewhere between 2-3 months to 10 months out. But be warn that even with warranty still on them, Apple will not service them if unofficial parts were used in the refurbishing.

That said, I got several phones from them and all looked like new and had screen protectors, etc. one even had a screen protector that looked like an OEM one, although in my case, I kind of suspected that one had an aftermarket screen, so I ended up keeping a different one as my main one. Note that they seem to use different batches of screens when they're replaced and a few have reported ones that look inferior, but most report that even ones with replaced screens look great and most probably won't even be able to tell. I'd say it's good to check the phone you get and be happy if it works fine without having unrealistic expectations of what you're getting for $100. As I recall, most everyone has reported getting phones that looked new or great condition, showing 100% battery life and no telltale signs of replaced parts due to the cloned identifiers.
