A frontpage deal with similar specs on a Lenovo that was new was $1200, so this is about $300~ off before tax.

Looking pretty tempting, wonder what BF will bring considering the glut of chips TSMC is warning about.

Edit: Looks like the 3060 on the Lenovo was 140W max TDP though, compared to this 110W.

Pretty decent deal IMO, but the low wattage 3060 might be a issue for some who is looking for top of the line 3060 performance.

This laptop has one of those annoying flipped motherboard setups. So upgrading storage and ram is more work than it should be.

This deal seems pretty good overall, though I'm not sure all of the information in OPs post is correct, and it is also a sub-optimal time to be purchasing a gaming laptop. If you need one right now though, this might be worth it. As a side note, the price shows up as $999.99 but a 12% discount is applied in cart.

The highlight of this laptop seems to be the 2560 x 1600 165hz screen, according to acer: "The LCD panel is IPS, 500NIT, 3ms response time, 1200:1, sRGB 100%, 8 bit color depth." This is obviously incredibly good for a laptop in this price range, and while the lack of g-sync is disappointing it should absolutely not be expected at this price.

When it comes to the processor the i7-11800h is still quite respectable, if a bit of a power hog, though 12th gen intel processors are vastly superior. Overall in this price range at this time there's not much to complain about when it comes to the processor, and it will be more than sufficient for any gaming you'll be doing with the 3060 in this laptop. If your primary use case for a laptop is more productivity based and cpu bound it'd probably be better to search for a 12th gen intel laptop.

Moving on to the graphics card itself, the only official acer page I could find (https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/con....QE8AA.001) which lists the tgp for this model does not exist anymore, but using the waybackmachine I pulled up a snapshot from July 2021 and it lists a tgp of 105 watts. I also could not find any mention of a mux switch anywhere in acers official documentation, and in best buy questions and answers two people said there was not a mux switch while only one person said there was. It's entirely possible the tgp was raised and/or a mux switch was added in bios updates, but I can't find any evidence of this with a cursory search. I would not count on the tgp being higher than 105w or this laptop having a mux switch, but if the OP has any source for those claims in their post I would be happy to be proved wrong. Assuming this laptop has a 105 watt 3060 without a mux switch, performance should still be fairly good for 1080p gaming at high settings for even recent titles and be somewhat competent at 1440p. Obviously a 130w 3060 or a 3070 will outperform this by a sizeable margin, but those also tend to be massively more expensive relative to the performance gain. Having only 6gb of vram is a bummer, but to get 8 you need a 3070 or higher.

With regards to storage this laptop comes with a 512gb "M.2 SSD 2242/2280 (PCIe Gen4x4)" and 2x8GB dual channel memory. There are 2 m.2 slots for gen 4 ssd (1 occupied by the 512gb ssd), and 2 ram slots supporting 32gb each for a maximum of 64gb. It should be noted that while storage and ram are both upgradeable the slots are behind the motherboard, meaning it will likely be quite a pain to access.

Regarding usb ports the thunderbolt 4 port according to acer: "Connects to USB devices with a TBT4 Type-C connector. • Supports DP1.4a • Supports Thunderbolt4 • Delivers up to 3A at 5V for USB charging •Support power delivery: 20V, 65W(3.25A)~100W(5A)". As an aside, since I don't know where else to fit this in, all the information I have found indicates this laptop has bluetooth 5.1, not 5.2 as OP has stated.

According to reviews this laptop has fairly average battery life for a gaming laptop, meaning extremely poor compared to anything that isn't a gaming laptop, so keep that in mind. Thermals seem to be about middle of the road, nothing exceptional but nothing horrible either. It should be noted that the user manual states: "If the AC adapter is disconnected or if the battery charge is lower than 40%, operating mode options will be disabled." meaning that it may not be possible to use higher performance "operating modes" (essentially power settings for the cpu, gpu, and fans) if you're not connected to the charger.

Overall, this is probably the best gaming laptop you can currently find for under $900 and is the best price I've seen for these sort of specs. The screen is excellent and the cpu/gpu combo should be sufficient for anything below 4k as long as you don't want to be playing the latest titles at ultra settings 1440p. That being said, I still think this is not a great time to buy a gaming laptop, particularly one with a last gen cpu and a (relatively) soon to be last gen gpu. This is especially the case since desktop gpu prices have massively fallen (and continue to do so) while gaming laptops which once had gpus far less inflated relative to their desktop variants are now lagging far behind in returning to pre-crypto prices. Due to a variety of factors gaming laptops should also continue to drop in price, slower and not to nearly the same degree as the desktop gpu market, but still by a significant amount. But, if you need a laptop right now, this is definitely an attractive option.

I normally do extensive research before posting my deals and normally the information are correct. Regarding your question about 105W TGP, that was true initially for all Acer gaming laptops including Nitro 5, Predator 300 and 500 SE but after that Acer released firmware update to increase it across all models. That's a very well documented and published in multiple sites and Acer now also lists it.

I don't think this model has MUX. Dave2D's review mentioned that. I could be wrong if there was a BIOS update for that.

Thanks OP - bought this and loving it. Purchased mainly for productivity, but looking forward to some light gaming on it as well. Best deal I could find for a color accurate laptop that also had gaming capabilities.
