Since then, I've had no issues at all. I'd recommend this system if you're looking to expand coverage and get the highest speeds out of the plan you pay for.
I came from an Apple AirPort Extreme, which was about as foolproof of a system as you can get, and to Asus' credit this has been a very easy system to set up and maintain

I bought the AX92U recently because WiFi 5 was plenty fast for the particular use case of a 400 down/60 up fixed wireless connection, with limited LAN needs. And I liked it so much that I bought 4 more units for installs for family members.
In either case, if you are using wired backhaul, the AX92U or XT8 are both going to be plenty fast for most residential use cases.
Edit: One more thing. If you are planning to run Asuswrt-Merlin firmware, the XT8 is already supported in Gnuton's fork. https://github.com/gnuton/asuswrt-merlin.ng The AX92U is on the roadmap for Gunton's fork. Neither is (and neither is likely to be) supported by the main Asuswrt-Merlin firmware developer. If this paragraph is Greek to you, then you probably don't need Asuswrt-Merlin anyway.

I'd like to future proof with the latest tech to last another 5+ years. I'm switching soon to Google Fiber's 1Gbps up/down and it's been almost 6 years since I upgraded my equipment. Thanks!
The good news is that Merlin has released support for this model [github.com] but I have only been running it for a few days, and can't really say that it resolves all of Asus's issues with any confidence just yet. So far, so good, but it's too soon to tell.
I'm well past the return period and held onto these in hopes that Asus would be good about fixing in updates, but over the last year that's proven to be fruitless. Wish I went a different route.

I run Ethernet in my own home and also use an EdgeRouter and Ubiquiti access points (including an AC-Pro). I'm about to upgrade to fiber, and don't see much need to upgrade my access points yet as my bandwidth heavy applications are mostly wired. When I do inevitably upgrade, I'll probably just upgrade to a Ubiquiti WiFi 6 Pro (or whatever the current gen Pro model is whenever I upgrade).
Also you may want to check if that EdgeRouter can handle the full gigabit connection. My EdgeRouter Lite can do ~840 Mbps routing, I think, but if I want to take advantage of more sophisticated firewall features then I need to upgrade to something like a pfsense box or a Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro if I want to be able to take full advantage of the gigabit connection. My recollection is that the EdgeRouter Lite sees a huge drop in throughput when you start enabling some of the more heavy-duty security features.
