Similar look to rt-ax86u but worse in almost every way. No multi gig port. 1 USB is 2.0. and one 3.0 as opposed to 2 usb3.0. dual core CPU vs quad. Half the ram.
Too similar in price to recommend getting the S version honestly

Thank-you so much I almost bought this thinking it is the ax 86U .

2.5G/3.0 controller is the only thing that's "missing"
The CPU is the same A53 with 2 cores disabled (4908>4906). Unless you have a household of people hammering the router, they perform the "same"
The cheapest AX86U is 250 right now. $75 USD is pretty big? especially if you don't need the 2.5G port.
Amazon has matched the pricing ($10 less than their typical), but not Newegg's code price.
Correct me if I'm wrong, someone considering the AX68, or especially the AX58 would be better of spending the extra on the 86S instead?
Tempting, but Newegg of today is supposedly not the Newegg of yesteryear, so that gives pause.
With something so subject to a YMMV experience like this, the backing of a friction-less Amazon return policy would make it much easier to pull the trigger.
The upcoming AX86U "Pro" (which some characterize more as a v2) slated to appear soon, with BCM4912+6715 is also a consideration, but will it be an additional model (with higher price), or supplant the 86U?

Prob GT-AX6000 PCB with disabled MIMO (FCC code name is RTAX5600). I don't expect that model for another year, but who knows.
AX58 sucks (@ market price). Spend the extra for 3x3 at minimum. Better coverage and support for legacy stuff like 3x3 5G N clients.
This AX86S is a much better value than the AX68U currently. Identical platform > with 4x4 5G. (3 external + 1 internal antenna).
I had AX86U run as VPN connect to main Netgear router, Asus ran flawless, reset for internet connection to main router only 1 time after 6 months, 5 G not very reliable but other chanel is robust..Range is excellent.
You guys are cracking me up about 86u vs 86s processor and ram weakness. It's a router and unless your running hardware VPNs and pulling 30+ simultaneous devices the ram and cpu differences aren't going to be noticeable. The ax86u 2.5 port might be worth it IF you have over a 1000Mbps connection or using NAS, otherwise not much decerandable difference in the two for 99% of users.
