Pixel 6 owner here. I word of warning.
the reviews stating the slow finger print reader is concerning.
If i can go back in time, I would not buy the pixel 6 because the fingerprint reader is embarrassingly slow and misreads if you change lighting conditions. It's simply awful and makes checking the phone a chore. I hate it. No screen protector issue, not my phone (it was exchanged), and it's a common complaint. If you are coming from a phone that had even an average sensor, this will annoy you to no end.

The Google Tensor chips have such unreliable and poor mobile connections that a significant number of users have to reboot regularly or toggle airplane mode on/off just to get data working. It always happens when i drive. Check reddits pixel subs for more info. It doesn't look like any of those issues will be fixed because they simply aren't fixed in the flagships.
It seems to be an issue when you transition towers, so if you travel a lot or travel through dead zones, it'll happen more frequently. An unacceptable problem most in-studio reviews don't address, but real-world users struggle with, and have been since launch.

warning: This kind of trade in deal came around 1.5 yrs ago for 4a 5g. The say they will respect trade in value if old phone is received within a month of you receiving the new phone. But then they delayed the return pkg . And instead of giving $285 trade in value they gave $15. Everyone had to fight with customer care to get back the money. And they have terrible customer care.

Several reviews of the final product are indicating it's pretty similar to the 6 and 6 Pro. Some early stories and very early (unofficial) hands on videos said it was a faster sensor, but many of the reviews coming out today of the production model ay it's similar in speed. Maybe a hair faster here and there, but not so much as to make a noticeable difference in day-to-day use.

I got offered $260-$300 for my Pixel 3a that I got at launch when doing trade in via mobile browser.

That is nuts considering how little I paid for THAT phone when it came out with all of the random credits. They are also offering the same amount for the iPhone SE2, which I got for $0 from TMO for adding a free line. Only $100 for my Note 8, loool.

I also have amex offer google fi I haven't used, may be that will help bring the cost down too
Sorry Amex offer won't work on this deal. You need to order this on Google official store which sells Google made phones without any service while Amex offer is for Google Fi (phone with service).

Ordered.. But i think this is going to go fubar for a lot of us. they can clearly point to their terms and conditions and say trade in received is not in the condition described.. where as there is nothing required for condition.. all it says is it turn on and has no cracks.

still taking a chance.

Anyone have any issues with Google's trade-in process? I feel like I've heard horror stories, but of course people are going to post the horror stories and not the success stories. Google is offering $300 for my 4a if I pre-order the 6a. Seems like a no-brainer since I only paid $350 for it 18+ months ago. And you get pixel buds for free (though I don't really care about those).

Sounds like cracked versus not is minimal price difference - they offered me $300 for perfect phone and $295 to hottie for their cracked one.

Cracked screen pixel 3a xl worth $292.50. I assume a burn-in screen still counts as cracked/screen doesn't work?
I'd crack it just in case the trade-in reps denies your phone since it wasn't as described.

I'm confused. You're asking if anyone has had any issues with the trade-in process, and say you feel like you've heard horror stories, but of course people are going to post the horror stories.

What exactly are you looking for? You want to have everyone post their success stories so you can feel that you're going to be one of the ones that doesn't have an issue?

I've traded in 2 phones through Google at the same time (different accounts). One went fine. The other was an unbelievable disaster demonstrating the company they use to validate phones is prone to lies and treachery.

My daily driver is a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (512GB), but I wanted a new backup, which has been a Pixel 3a since 2019.

I placed an order and figured I'll share how much I paid (without sales tax), just in case it helps other decide or helps others maximize their own purchase. If I'm missing anything, let me know!

$449 (Google Pixel 6a)
+ $99 (Google Pixel Buds A-Series)
- $99 (promotion of free Google Pixel Buds A-Series)
- $8.98 (2% cash back through third-party web portal)
- $13.47 (3% cash back for using third-party cash back credit card)
- $300 (Google Pixel 3a trade-in)
= $126.55

Note: Earns $44.90 Google Store credit (Google One Premium membership of 10% cash back for Google Store purchases). If I consider this credit as good as cash, then the phone + earbuds = $81.65.

-----

By the way, Discover credit card is offering 5% cash back as its current category if you check out via PayPal. (I already used up my $75 in cash back for this quarter.)

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

I see they still accept an iphone 7 but with 256gb for $300.

If one has a 64gb iphone 7, and attempts to submit this as a 256gb, would they flatly deny the trade in and drop the trade in to $0? or does one have a chance of getting some value?

Asking for a friend. =)
Curious to know as well ...

but its free with the pixel 6a though
Hi, I was referring to how much value they make. If bought or should be seen as a $30 discount/advantage atmost in this deal.

Nevertheless free is free!

Why does anyone care about what MKBHD thinks. Hes a youtuber whos daily driver is an iphone who pushes dbrand advertising, and just because he reviews android phones frequently, people take his opinions as if he were the head of google. His thoughts and opinions are about as noteworthy as your average mcdonalds teen working the register. laugh out loud
Why does anyone care about what any reviewer thinks? As someone who sees a lot of phones, he has experience in finding flaws and strengths in devices.

That said, if you blindly follow one person's opinion, that's doing yourself a disservice. But if you use multiple opinions to better inform yourself, that's just the process of researching a product before making a buying decision.
