Pixel 6 owner here. I word of warning.
the reviews stating the slow finger print reader is concerning.
If i can go back in time, I would not buy the pixel 6 because the fingerprint reader is embarrassingly slow and misreads if you change lighting conditions. It's simply awful and makes checking the phone a chore. I hate it. No screen protector issue, not my phone (it was exchanged), and it's a common complaint. If you are coming from a phone that had even an average sensor, this will annoy you to no end.

The Google Tensor chips have such unreliable and poor mobile connections that a significant number of users have to reboot regularly or toggle airplane mode on/off just to get data working. It always happens when i drive. Check reddits pixel subs for more info. It doesn't look like any of those issues will be fixed because they simply aren't fixed in the flagships.
It seems to be an issue when you transition towers, so if you travel a lot or travel through dead zones, it'll happen more frequently. An unacceptable problem most in-studio reviews don't address, but real-world users struggle with, and have been since launch.

warning: This kind of trade in deal came around 1.5 yrs ago for 4a 5g. The say they will respect trade in value if old phone is received within a month of you receiving the new phone. But then they delayed the return pkg . And instead of giving $285 trade in value they gave $15. Everyone had to fight with customer care to get back the money. And they have terrible customer care.

Several reviews of the final product are indicating it's pretty similar to the 6 and 6 Pro. Some early stories and very early (unofficial) hands on videos said it was a faster sensor, but many of the reviews coming out today of the production model ay it's similar in speed. Maybe a hair faster here and there, but not so much as to make a noticeable difference in day-to-day use.

Just as a cautionary tale...I did the trade in with Google last year when they were offering an enticing amount for the Pixel 2. Everything seemed ok...I transferred my service to my new pixel and mailed in my old pixel 2. They offered me 240 when I initiated the trade in but only gave me 37 when they received it saying the screen was cracked...I literally was using the phone daily right up until it went in the trade in box. I complained and appealed and then they said oops it's not cracked but we can't get it to turn on and thats the final verdict (too bad so sad). They didn't care that it was in use on my account even up to the day it shipped to them. I have been on pixels since the Nexus days but this is probably my last one because of that experience.

How long does it take for Google to send in the trade in kit? I don't care if the device arrives late, but I need to send in my trade in device before I leave out of country in a few days.

Got offered $300 trade in for 3a XL. But I would miss the free Google photos storage. Is it worth upgrading and paying for Google photos? My family takes thousands of photos...
That really depends on what you value and your alternatives.

The Google photos backup is only for storage saver qaulity, so it's not a true backup of the original photos.

If you have Amazon prime, you get original quality backups for all photos included with your prime membership (but not videos).

You could also do a unlimited full computer backup with backblaze for $70/year.

But if you like having picture in Google photos, for using with nest home hub devices, it's definitely a nice benefit, but you'll eventually lose it whenever your current device kicks the bucket.

Which cashback place offers 3%? All I can see if the Rack offering 2%.
Rack has a credit card [syf.com] that allows you to earn "an extra 3% on all qualifying [Rack] purchases, online and in stores." So for this one, it's essentially a 5% cash back; you'll see that I broke it up to 2% and then 3% cash back. If you do a Google search, there's a better link than the one I provided.

By the way, Discover credit card is offering 5% cash back as its current category if you check out via PayPal.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

I've traded in a device with Google before going from pixel 3 to pixel 4a, and it was smooth and no problems. I similarly had a good experience trading in a phone with Samsung.

I've also heard horror stories for each, but haven't personally experienced it.

Probably, best to just take a bunch of photos and maybe a video of yourself handling the trade in device just in case.
You'd think photos, videos, etc. would help, but if they want to screw you, they'll screw you.

I posted my story in the thread but I also had proof of the phones condition (Google trade in) and it was all to no avail in the end.

This Pixel 6A, or should I keep a S10e?
6a is going to be a downgrade in every way except for camera, battery life and future updates. If your s10e is in good shape, I'd hold off.

Definitely looks like a great deal. One catch seems to be if you have a pixel 4a with Verizon as your provider. You would have to get a 5g plan if you want to stay with Verizon and from what I've read it's another $10 a month. Please let me know if I'm on crack with what I stated. Thx!

Top/#1 priority for me is camera/photo quality. My Pixel 3a has been flawless but photos seem hit or miss. If the 6a camera is the same or only slightly better then I'll pass...I use T-Mo anyway so there's that

100% agree with you on the connectivity issues. I never had to toggle airplane mode on my previous phones. I've just come to accept it, but looking back I would've just kept my 3a. Tmo did give $300 trade in on my 3a, so I'm not too upset

It's giving $300 trade in value for my One Plus 8. Too bad it seems like a downgrade from the OP8 in almost every way except getting the latest OS updates
