I picked one of these up earlier this year, and returned it two days later.
If you're ONLY using it for basic stuff? You're fine.

But.

Anything CPU intensive? It throttles. And throttles. It dropped down to 600MHz to keep itself from crapping the bed, and that was just having 4k Videodownloaer convert a podcast to MP3.

As for durability... it's as rigid as it can be given the space constraints. The touchpad is huge and meatchecks you a lot, too.

I wanted to love it, but it was a bad experience.

The i5 12th gen are pretty sick. Outperform the i7 from prior gen by a nice margin.

With the thermal profile these things have, the i7 generally isn't even faster than the i5.

How tough are the hinges? Asking for a 66 year old father who's rather rough with his facebook machine.

Why not just get him a tablet with a keyboard or a SP7 or 8?

Yeah, that's the one I've got my eye on, especially with Coscto's return policy. I can wait until BF.

Seems like a great deal. The LG Gram is known to have very good build quality. The i5-1240P is a very good processor. The P stands for performance. I can't speak to throttling in real life though.

Man $400 or nearly 50% for an extra inch (heh) is a huge premium. If people need more performance the new Dell Inspiron 16 2 in 1 is a decent alternative. It only has a fullhd+ resolution and quite a bit heavier, but throttles significantly less, expandable ddr4, convertible touchscreen, similar battery life. I wouldve bit on this 16" but all user reports so far suggests the piddly heatsink can't handle the new chip. Fan spins more (even in silent mode), crazy throttling. Still waiting for notebookcheck to do their review. they really need to change over to amd.
