Pharmacist here. Just wanted to add that the way you're taking it, to include your friend, are completely fine by statistical measures. Keep in mind that these measures are adjusted for mean age, weight, and dose limitations when considering adverse events or side-effects of drugs. The maximum daily dose, which is conservative in that it can be applied to a majority of the population, is 3,200 mg or 3.2 grams per day. Your buddy taking 10 per day, assuming they aren't all at once, is completely normal and clinical dosing is closer to 40mg/kg. If he was 375 lbs, his max would be almost 7,000mg per day.

Staying under the max dose puts the consumer at a lower risk of side effect and possible organ damage, but that doesn't mean there aren't outliers or people who already have kidney damage, have stomach ulcers, or other reasons why they shouldn't use certain NSAIDs. It's definitely smart to avoid opioid use as much as possible, but they do have their place in therapy as long as use is appropriate.

You definitely don't have to suffer based on concerns of overuse, as I'd rather see you hold on to your quality of life as opposed to dealing with painful knees each day. Unless you have health concerns that don't warrant ibuprofen use, there's nothing wrong with taking 400mg at a time a few times per day.

Crazy how much more expensive Advil is from a generic brand.

Costco has 1000 tablets 200mg for $10.99

Obviously there is a difference between the two, but main ingredient is still Ibuprofen.

While I don't disagree that people should consult their own physician, your tone is making pharmacists sound like clerks who just do physicians' bidding. Not like educated people who have to obtain a Pharm.D and pass exams in order to be state licensed. How many times have pharmacists caught a physician's error?

Good price. I try not to use it much but I'll take a couple capsules maybe 2 times per week to help with back pain. My best friend takes this stuff too much. Like 10 pills per day. But he is also a very big guy.

even at 12 ish dollars for not sub and save, this is way cheaper than my local store. I recall I paid 20 bucks for the same bottle a week ago.

10 pills a day sounds like a lot for more than a couple weeks at a time. Your friend might want to talk to a doctor about taking that much ibuprofen. Pretty good article about it here: https://health.clevelandclinic.or...every-day/

He a real big guy. Weighs like 350 to 400 pounds. I think he's been taking that many pills for years. Honestly maybe 10+ years. He would take maybe 5 pills at one time sometimes. He deals with a lot of chronic pain because he had a knee injury as a kid. Fell from monkey bars and landed on his knees on concrete as a kid and shattered his knees and had to have surgery (why they had concrete under monkey bars I'll never know lol). But he seems to be doing fine taking that many after all these years so who knows...

I've always wondered why they offer pain relievers in such a high count — your friend seems to be the prime example. Never had to deal with chronic pain and am super grateful for that. One headache pill every 2-3 months is it for me

As long as a Dr is regularly monitoring his liver function with blood tests, it's all good. (Source: fellow chronic pain sufferer who has tried all the NSAIDs now that opioids are last resort).

You can't compare liquid gel Advil to non-liquid generic, a huge difference in the price is the liquid and they are different products despite having the same active drug ingredient. Liquid gels are designed to absorb and go into effect much more quickly and as a result are more expensive, including generic options.

Yeah I've tried telling him he needs to slow down on them because it can't be good for his liver / kidneys but he doesn't listen lol I take Advil / Tylenol maybe 2 or 3 times per week. In 2019 I herniated my spine and ever since then I've had terrible lower back pain. Advil helps kick the edge off the pain. Some days I will just endure the pain because I don't want to be taking the stuff too often.

Yeah I feel like OTC meds are better than being addicted to prescription opioids. He really needs to lose weight to take the pressure off his knees. He may not even need pain meds as much if he did that. I need to lose weight myself but not as much as him lol
