Staying under the max dose puts the consumer at a lower risk of side effect and possible organ damage, but that doesn't mean there aren't outliers or people who already have kidney damage, have stomach ulcers, or other reasons why they shouldn't use certain NSAIDs. It's definitely smart to avoid opioid use as much as possible, but they do have their place in therapy as long as use is appropriate.
You definitely don't have to suffer based on concerns of overuse, as I'd rather see you hold on to your quality of life as opposed to dealing with painful knees each day. Unless you have health concerns that don't warrant ibuprofen use, there's nothing wrong with taking 400mg at a time a few times per day.
Costco has 1000 tablets 200mg for $10.99
Obviously there is a difference between the two, but main ingredient is still Ibuprofen.

Tell him to try CBD oil. If your state doesn't allow it, have someone bring it in across state lines. Wish it was around when my mother was alive. She couldn't take prescription narcotic pain meds and had trouble swallowing over the counter pain meds. So many people have praised it.

And thanks to the Pharmacist that provided the above information. I know people mean well with conservative warnings on "limits" for these medications, but the cost of being in constant pain can be high and extremely damaging to one's quality of life.

The pharmacist's dialogue ranges from misleading to inaccurate.
Especially since 200-count is way too much for me, but the cost is less than the 80-count I usually buy, and they usually have at least a year for expiration.
That being said, I am concerned about the number of reviews stating/showing opened bottles with the inner seal torn or missing, gels all fused into a blob, foul odor and more.
