TL: We had a suitcase stolen from the luggage carousel at SeaTac a couple of months ago, and even though we had travel insurance and purchased the flight with a credit card with great travel perks, it's been a nightmare trying to get any reimbursements from the airline, the credit card company, or even the travel insurance company. Some of the items were priceless heirlooms from a visit to aging relatives that we'll never be able to replace. The stress and hassle has cost us way more than the price of these, even at the full price of $100. If we had airtags in our luggage at the time, it would have been so easy to track the thief as they stayed in the airport bathroom for nearly an hour going through each item in the suitcase.
The cops told us that luggage theft is rampant and happens dozens of times a day every day. There's zero security at the luggage carousels so if you're forced to check your luggage, do yourself a favor and make sure these are in each bag as your chances of being robbed are apparently very high according to the airport police. 😕
