I had a top-of-the line 2010 CPU from AMD that I just replaced this year. While it was fast enough to run games well for several years, I ran into trouble starting in the late 2010s with an AVX instruction that games started to require and which wasn't implemented by AMD until 2011. I think the moral of my story is that it's best to buy mid-range twice as often rather than high-end.

The 5600X outperformed the 3900X. So you have to ask yourself what price the 7600X will launch at. It's really tough to justify a 5900X on a dead platform when you can have the midrange of the new platform for the same price in a few months.

Anyone think they'll ever do a 5900X3D or a 5950X3D? I wanna milk AM4 for all she's got. I usually pass my CPUs down to my kids so I'm trying to stick to the same platform so we can all upgrade at the same time.
Not a chance. If they haven't done it by now they're not going to do it on the AM4 platform.

Also, there's some thermal stuff with the 5800X3D, which may make the stacking slightly less feasible on the 59xx parts.

I would guess that we will see a lot more "3D" chips in the future and that Intel will copycat it eventually too. The gaming performance is just unreal.

It's possible, but as this is the last run for AM4 now, it will be a difficult decision to upgrade to Zen5 considering you will need to upgrade to an AM5 motherboard, DDR5 instead of DDR4 as well as a premium new AM5 cpu. And of course, the bugs they will need to work out in the first 12 months.

Its a good price
I remember back in 2020 I wanted the 3900x when it hit 350 but it never really did
It was around $400 once but then it went up to $550-$600 with the shortages
Now the 3900x is $450 with 10% off on Amazon

Good for you, glad to hear you have a target price in mind and are sticking to it!

Looking at Ryzen 9 3900x on eBay, New condition, lowest buy it now price is $350.

Hope this processor is still fashionable fast when you eventually get it for sub-$300.

That $32.49 difference in savings over the Prime deal on July 13th will have been well worth it.

Thumbup
Why the 3900 over the 5900?

Good deal for now, but I expect we will see lower prices on all Ryzen processors soon. AMD has a bit of an issue with plenty of stock of these, and the series 7 about to release which is a significant improvement over all of series 5. They will either have to delay the new chips, or start slashing prices on these to make room on shelves.
