Personally I avoid being an early adopter of a new release of hardware that involves a new socket and/or processor architecture
Early Ryzen had issues, and AMD mobos were not something manufacturers usually keyed on
People had to do all the Samsung B die nonsense for ram
The AM4 and 5000 series cpus are tight - the peaks of the AM4 series
Where my x470 and 2600 could have mystery crashes, my 5900x and x570 Tuf Pro run like butter
5900x and x570/.B550 aren't obsolete by any stretch.
The 3900x never got cheap and right now costs more than the 5900x
12 cores for 360 is pretty good - I never saw the 3900x for that and its 455 om Amazon right now
Extra cores do things in games that fps dont convey
Avoiding top priced items is wise but this is cheap and the 7000 series will cost a lot and be buggy

picked up a 5950x for $499 just 2 days ago on newegg. These prices are insane. The PC Sector in general has excess inventory. AMD is trying to boost revenue before Q2 2022 results get posted. Every other PC part manufacturer has seen huge earnings per share drops and their stock has plummeted. (Intel, Nvidia, Micron)

This is sound advice for life in general, and applies to a wide range of products, most notably cars. I agree, no need to rush into a new platform, especially when you can get a deal like this. I bought this 5900x on prime day to replace a 3900x. Literal drop in. You wouldn't think there would be much gains but the minimum fps in games got a huge, noticeable boost.

$332 actually. Combined with the the added 1% (for 6% cashback total) I ended up walking away with it for 312. No complaints at all. Thing is a beast. Passmark scores the same as Intel's super overpriced $500 12900 that also uses twice the energy

That's not how it works lol. Everything from July 1 onward is Q3. None of the sales will be reflected in Q2 earnings. Q2 results will largely be BAU since the good sales didn't start until July, of course it doesn't really matter to AMD since they aren't the retailer and these sales are mainly from retailers and not manufacturer rebates...

i agree we may very well see this go to $300. there is massive inventory issues right now in retail and electronics due to companies overestimating demand + inflationary pressures eating into consumers' budgets. hold the line!

Anyone have any tips on how to keep this thing cool? I have arctic freezer ii 240 on it but sometimes boots up at 70 degrees...idles in the 50s... is this normal?

How would sales in August impact AMD Q2 reporting? It is not that immediate. There is a gap of weeks after a quarter closes before being reported.

Very normal temps for these according to AMD. AMD says sustained load can get to 90c. I reused my Noctua NH-U12S Redux with the optional second fan.

While benching Passmark temps at first got to 81, but once full load happened the CPU fan kept it at 66-75 even at all-core 4.4-4.7ghz.
