I bought this machine on a previous deal.I wanted a 17.3" screen, so this was an easy choice over the Dell. Screen is excellent, I don't plan on gaming much so the 60Hz isn't an issue. I added another 8GB stick and a second SSD. Build quality is great. I think this is one of the best deals out there.
I bought this for $650 from a prior deal (and got the $50 refunded when it went to $599 last time).

Ok, I'll start by saying this is not the professional gamer's dream machine (those are available, and cost $1500-$2500). It also weighs a bit more than even some other 17.3" laptops.

With that out of the way, I love this thing. There is no desktop replacement 17.3" laptop I have seen with these specs and build quality for anything close to $599. As a bonus you can do some 1080P gaming on it at medium settings if you ever want to. It's built like a tank, the screen is beautiful and bright, and it is super upgradable.

I wrote a mini-review in a past thread on this thing if anyone is interested. I have been using this thing for over a month, have upgraded the memory and added an SSD, and I have no regrets. It's fast, runs cool, is built like a tank, and the 60Hz screen is a pleasure to look at.

I understand the temptation to compare this to high end gaming laptops as it is a "Lenovo Legion 5", and those "should have a 165Hz QHD screen" and "at least an RTX 3070" etc. etc. etc. If you game for a living, or spend 12 hours a day doing that, those are fair points I guess. Go spend $2500 on a laptop. This thing is $599!

Compare this to high end business laptops and you will see what I am talking about. It's a $1000-$1200 laptop for $599 (with comparable specs and as good as or better build quality compared to something like an HP Envy or Dell Latitude). If you can get over it being branded as a "gaming laptop" there is a real slick deal to be had here. As a bonus, you can game on it, from time to time, thanks to the real discrete GPU (as opposed to the integrated GPU on all those high end business laptops I mentioned).
Ah, the thread crapper again.
8GB RAM with an additional slot to which you can easily add another stick and voila, you suddenly have double the RAM. Magic, innit?

Boring screen? Didn't you write 'lousy' before? Insecure aren't we? It's a 300-nit 100% sRGB screen which is hard to find in an overall gaming/content creating laptop at this price range. That's not "boring" at all. The 120Hz panel on the Dell G15 is horrible and numerous people have reported that.

The 1650 is outdated, yes, but this isn't supposed to just be a full-blown gaming laptop. It's an overall solid device with a pretty good screen and a dedicated GPU, great build quality and port selection. This is for someone who wants to edit photos and videos with the option of mild-moderate gaming, the dGPU is more than capable for that and so is the option to add more RAM.

I'm not aware if there's any other laptop (esp 17") with such features at this price. The 3050 ones have poor screens and the ones with good screens have a weak GPU, weaker than 1650 here. And the ones with good screens and GPU, both, are usually priced above $650-700 at least.

It should last 6-7 hours for normal web browsing and office work since it has 80whr battery. My Legion 5 with 60whr lasts 4-5 hours.

Just because it has a 1650 people act as if it doesn't have dedicated graphics at all. I've edited some photos in photoshop just fine.

As mentioned above, the screen is very nice. I'll trade 120Hz for 60 all day to get the 300 nit and 100% sRGB

Since there have been few deals for Dell G15 with 3050 at the same price (and even better with $120 Amex offer), this doesn't look that appealing. And 3050 is far better [userbenchmark.com] than 1650.
If Dell has improved its over all quality recently then may be. I have had a few Dell items crap on me since sandy bridge latitudes came out. Those thing still going strong but everything built after them has vanished from the planet.

Lenovo legion build quality has been good. I had 4600h and 1650ti Walmart model till last week before I sold it and quality was phenomenal. I had an omen before which was built even better but Intel chip made it run like a frier. AMD and Lenovo combination has been nothing but great. And 1650 is no slouch for the intended purpose. It will play all the games for a casual user.

I pulled the trigger! Tired of contemplating whether this will be a good purchase or not. I have extra SSD's to populate the empty slots. Will upgrade the RAM to 32GB (or 64 if supported) when I have it. Kid can play Roblox while Daddy can run his VM. LOL

Really tempting, but confused between this one and the one below -

https://slickdeals.net/f/15828469-hp-victus-15-fb0121nr-15-6-gaming-laptop-5600h-3-3ghz-geforce-gtx-...

Differences:
Screen Size: 17.3 (OP listing) vs 15.6 (Victus)
SSD: 256GB (OP listing) vs 512GB SSD (Victus)
Refresh rate: 60Hz (OP listing) vs 144Hz (Victus).

Is the build quality on the Legion and Victus same or comparable?

Matte or Glossy screen? Glossy is terrible when trying to work in an airport.

Ssd can be replaced. You can't increase the screen size if you need a bigger screen later. 144hz is nice though, but at this price, they need to cut some corners.

HP is notorious for using 250 nit screens. That's why they rarely ever mention that in their specs sheet.

This is what I went for, much better GPU, CPU is subpar but for daily tasks it is fine (I'm using an Ideapad 5 4500U laptop now) and when I game, which is rarely, the 3050 will be the bottleneck 95% of the time and not the CPU anyway, even at 1080p. $30 8GB stick of crucial ram and GTG.

I think the 17.3" size, CPU, build quality, and bright screen is what is appealing?
