I bought this machine on a previous deal.I wanted a 17.3" screen, so this was an easy choice over the Dell. Screen is excellent, I don't plan on gaming much so the 60Hz isn't an issue. I added another 8GB stick and a second SSD. Build quality is great. I think this is one of the best deals out there.

I bought this for $650 from a prior deal (and got the $50 refunded when it went to $599 last time).

Ok, I'll start by saying this is not the professional gamer's dream machine (those are available, and cost $1500-$2500). It also weighs a bit more than even some other 17.3" laptops.

With that out of the way, I love this thing. There is no desktop replacement 17.3" laptop I have seen with these specs and build quality for anything close to $599. As a bonus you can do some 1080P gaming on it at medium settings if you ever want to. It's built like a tank, the screen is beautiful and bright, and it is super upgradable.

I wrote a mini-review in a past thread on this thing if anyone is interested. I have been using this thing for over a month, have upgraded the memory and added an SSD, and I have no regrets. It's fast, runs cool, is built like a tank, and the 60Hz screen is a pleasure to look at.

I understand the temptation to compare this to high end gaming laptops as it is a "Lenovo Legion 5", and those "should have a 165Hz QHD screen" and "at least an RTX 3070" etc. etc. etc. If you game for a living, or spend 12 hours a day doing that, those are fair points I guess. Go spend $2500 on a laptop. This thing is $599!

Compare this to high end business laptops and you will see what I am talking about. It's a $1000-$1200 laptop for $599 (with comparable specs and as good as or better build quality compared to something like an HP Envy or Dell Latitude). If you can get over it being branded as a "gaming laptop" there is a real slick deal to be had here. As a bonus, you can game on it, from time to time, thanks to the real discrete GPU (as opposed to the integrated GPU on all those high end business laptops I mentioned).

Ah, the thread crapper again.
8GB RAM with an additional slot to which you can easily add another stick and voila, you suddenly have double the RAM. Magic, innit?

Boring screen? Didn't you write 'lousy' before? Insecure aren't we? It's a 300-nit 100% sRGB screen which is hard to find in an overall gaming/content creating laptop at this price range. That's not "boring" at all. The 120Hz panel on the Dell G15 is horrible and numerous people have reported that.

The 1650 is outdated, yes, but this isn't supposed to just be a full-blown gaming laptop. It's an overall solid device with a pretty good screen and a dedicated GPU, great build quality and port selection. This is for someone who wants to edit photos and videos with the option of mild-moderate gaming, the dGPU is more than capable for that and so is the option to add more RAM.

I'm not aware if there's any other laptop (esp 17") with such features at this price. The 3050 ones have poor screens and the ones with good screens have a weak GPU, weaker than 1650 here. And the ones with good screens and GPU, both, are usually priced above $650-700 at least.

Matte or Glossy screen? Glossy is terrible when trying to work in an airport.
It's a matte screen. I can sit in my car in full Sun and still easily see the screen without glare or washing out.

Nah, even for $600 this is just kind of okay pricing.

The CPU is solid- perfect for the price for sure, the screen is decent, and the GPU is just barely passable at this point. With 30 series being decently available, there's no reason to not put in a 3050. The SSD will be filled almost instantly and the RAM is a mandatory upgrade needed post purchase. Just give me no RAM and lower the price more so I can get a matching 16GB kit myself.

Also, a 17.3 inch laptop SHOULD be doing 1080p. I don't agree with the people saying it should be a 144hz screen though. Maybe 120hz max if you want to be anal about it, but most of the time you're probably not hitting 120 FPS on many titles with a 1650 (or even 3050) so I can forgive a 60hz screen at that price range.

Most of them, but only at 1080P, and you will probably get much better FPS on medium/high settings rather than on high. You would certainly want a more powerful GPU if you plan to hook it up to a higher resolution screen and max out the settings.

Like I said, I got this machine to be a daily driver that I can play modern games on from time to time. I think for that purpose it is perfect and I think it is a very good deal. If somebody wants a more powerful GPU with their 17.3" FHD screen laptop, then I can certainly understand why they might want to spend $1,500 on a more powerful machine.

The one criticism of this machine that I actually agree with (aside from the GPU being a little bit dated) is that 8 gigabytes of memory just really isn't enough, especially running in single channel mode, and the 256 GB SSD will fill up quickly. I put 32 GB in it just because I found a deal on the memory. 16 GB is really all it needs. Same with the hard drive. I added a 1TB SSD because I found it really cheap. A 512 GB hard drive added to the existing 256GB SSD that came with it would be more than enough space for most. The total cost for upgrade of the hard drive and memory could be well under $75 for anyone who just upgraded it to 16 GB and added a 512 GB SSD.

I believe there is a 5% cash back reward for online walmart.com purchases with Chase (only 2 days left for me) maybe that reward is on other cards too? Does anyone know if those cash back reward promotions stack with the original card's cash back reward.

How does this laptop compare?https://www.walmart.com/ip/ASUS-T...thena=true

Also, will black friday deals be substantially better? Excuse my ignorance if it's an "of course." Thank You

How hard it is to add additional 8GB ram & another SSD?

On 1080p you'd be playing most modern games on medium or low if you want to get 60 FPS. It's essentially the absolute bare minimum Nvidia dGPU you would want at this point in time.
