Almost everything is now, or moving that way. It's becoming hard to find things that are upgradable, and it's done to a) cut build costs, b) eliminate repair options, and c) screw customers. Works very well at all these design goals.

Just can't bring myself to buy a Stinkpad, or Lenovo in general.

I'm pretty happy with my 6 year old ThinkPad for office tasks, but know I will need a new one at some point. This seems more expensive than some other deals I have seen posted with similar ram and storage. What are the features driving this price? Touchscreen?

It is expensive because it is called thinkpad.

LPDDR5 is power efficient and also runs at low voltages 1.05V-0.9V core and 0.6V-0.3V I/O. Soldering improves signal integrity. Each transition can modify impedance and distort signals. Unfortunately soldering is the way of the future for energy efficient computers.

Compare with PCIe cards. Do they solder them? How about PC RAMs? Do they solder them?

I hate non-upgradeable (aka surface pro) as anyone but you're comparing apples to oranges. Do you carry your desktop around in your briefcase?

PCIe, DDR5 and LPDDR5 all have different electrical specs. The LP in LPDDR5 stands for Low Power. Conserving energy on desktops is not as big a deal as laptops where battery life can be a purchase decider.

Does anyone own one of these? I was wondering if the cpu is throttled in order prevent the cooling fan from running overtime.

There are a lot of options from Lenovo that have upgradable slots. The T14 and E14 series's for example.

16GB of 4800MHz RAM isn't going to be an issue for most all Business users. Soldiered gives physical stability in most instances, and allows engineers to design the laptop to be more efficient; it's not just for exclusivity and sales!
