I bought several mattresses two years ago that were tightly rolled up and sealed. The manufacturer is owned by a friend of the family. He explained how revolutionary the process is and how the mattresses would be shipped for far less money but expand perfectly upon arrival. Well, they didn't. Apparently they sat on the truck for too long and all of the mattresses did not fully expand in the corners. We got such a good deal on them, and being sent from a friend, we did not say anything. But that's the last time I'll buy a mattress that comes rolled up. I absolutely believe that some of these mattresses may not fully expand just like what happened to the corners of my mattresses.

Bed in a box can, and will degrade over (much) time. Coils want to be decompressed back to their natural state. That said, a good hybrid with individual pocketed coils will only show minor, and targeted defects, even in worst case scenarios. Think of it as you might a TV, wherein one pixel blows instead of a whole panel.

Innerspring with typical interlocked coils? "Pillow tops" made from rejected cotton balls? Couldn't pay me enough to go back to that ancient, dated garbage. Technologies change. Some people's opinions don't simply because they don't try new things.

This is probably a safe/good buy, but because it's only an 8" mattress, don't expect top tier quality.

Anyone happen to know if you can utilize a credit card's warranty program if you happen to get a bad mattress? I've never used it before and most people forget that it's a feature on some credit cards (I have it on my Chase Freedom Visa & Chase Amazon Visa). But the question is would they warranty anything bought on eBay, even if it's the manufacturer's eBay store? Thanks in advance if anyone knows! I'm considering buying a full size one since need to replace a guest room's. I also wanna try it since it's a hybrid of springs and memory gel foam vs my Casper 12" memory foam mattress I got from Costco a few years back.

While Zinus got all the flack for using fiberglass, Linenspa and other brands do too. Just an FYI. Shouldn't be a problem if you never remove the cover.

The credit card extended warranty is on the manufacturers warranty, so the first question would be, does buying from an ebay store give you the manufacturers warranty or not. In this posting, the answer is no - it has no warranty so there's nothing to expand. If you are asking generally, I think if buying new from the ebay store triggers the same warranty as buying from a different retailer and that warranty is the manufacturers warranty then yes I believe your CC would extend the coverage unless they explicitly say they don't for auction sites.

Beware of buying these distressed mattresses. First hand experience and heard same issues from others. They do not expand to the fullest and do not expand evenly. So imagine onse side 10 inch tall and other side 7 inch tall. You will be climbing the slope in the sleep to balance your body. You buy and will regret for the life of the mattress.
Those great reviews are for the new mattresses and they are great for the price but would never touch the distressed.

Lots of misinformation in this thread about compressed beds. Yes, if you're buying cheap memory foam or spring or something like that, it can be a problem. If you buy from a reputable company and go high quality latex (which but is better than pretty much any other bed material) you'll be just fine. There's enough info to make your eyes bleed over at the mattressunderground website and forums if you don't believe me, so don't take my word for it.

I believe the Sapphire Reserve might allow for this. I'd check terms first, but they do have the return protection you're talking about.

Edit: reading again, it seems as if you're after a warranty rather than a return protection. I still think that this is possible, but you'd want to check to be sure.

I agree that the issue of not rising to the advertised height exists - but it's prevalent even with brand new mattresses (not just ones marked as distressed). Another reason I dont like mattresses in a box. My point was more that this could just be Linenspa trying to get rid of excess inventory rather than it being more defective than newer inventory.

So in the end, is this a good deal if you're putting it in a guest bedroom? A California King at $150 is a pretty sweat deal distressed or not.
